5 Rama-nine 54 is an ideal for those who want to experience local ways of living in Bangkok. This place is very simple. Self-service in most parts. The manager speaks pretty good English and can be a big help while you're still in the city. Also, there is a free manual given to you for going around places in the area and Bangkok.

No fancy decorations in any room, just beds. One room has 2 beds. Bathrooms are shared. Linen, towel, and soap is provided, as is free clean drinking water. For when it is too warm, there is a fan in every room and you can have free use of the washing machine and guest kitchen. Moreover, You'll be given free half-hour access of internet every day.

The hostel is located close to many attractions such as the statue of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great who created Thai alphabets, a rapid boat to Ratanakosin area, Chatuchak's largest weekend market, Silom's exciting night life and gay scene as well as the train station to Ayutthaya ancient city, Koh Loi and Koh Sichang Island, Cambodia border, Lopburi the monkey town and the famous Pattaya !

For gay travelers, there is info to gay places.

Access time is 24 hrs. Check-in time is 10 am to 10 pm. Travelers checking in late at night, you can notice a small plastic sign in front of its gate saying '5 Rama-Nine 54', just walk in the fence (no barking dogs) and ring bell in front of the building to get in or email them to wait for reception.

1 This place is cheap, really cheap, and really in the middle of nowhere. Even if I was a student at one of the supposed nearby universities I'd think twice about staying here. It is nowhere near any tourist attractions, or the airport, or a bus station or anything else, as the owners would like you to believe. Seriously, this place is worth giving a miss.
