I really enjoyed my stay at Hostal Rio Amazonas. Each room is nicely decorated with a jungle theme as the proprietor is originally from Ecuador (a home away from home for him). The hostal was clean and quiet and located in right in Barrio Brazil which has bars and restaurants nearby. The daughter of the owner speaks English, and everyone working there was quite friendly. If you speak Spanish, the owner is great to talk to because he will share a lot of information about Santiago and Ecuador if you are headed that way. I stayed there for three nights left, did some traveling, and then returned after staying in other hotels and hostels.

Very friendly place to stay, I stayed in 2004 and found it a friendly comfortable place to stay. Family run, quiet pleasant atmosphere.
