5 Very Good
Even though the rooms are not that new -- actually they are old -- the hotel itself is charming and the staff are very nice. And I'm not talking about the location which is great. You are two minutes walking distance from the main street, and five from the harbour, where everything takes place. There is a very nice patio with a swimming pool and a terrace on the roof. Had a great time there!

1 Stay away!
This hostel looks a lot nicer in the pictures, but myself and several other people staying here had numerous problems. For starters, I phoned to make a change to my reservation and instead they canceled it and took my deposit. Management and ownership wouldn't refund my deposit even though I had proof (they requested an email) that I had modified and not canceled my reservation. When I showed up they didn't have the room that I had booked so I got a very noisy room with a TV and remote control that didn't work and I got very little sleep from all the noise. Other people were complaining about not having hot water in their showers but mine was fine. The pool was really small and not very clean. The staff were ok but always tried to charge you more than what was said (and I'm not talking about the tax). It was always a fight to get what you were told. Breakfast stops at 10 a.m. but you get dirty looks if you try to order past 9:45 a.m. Sure the room was cheap by Bahamian standards but not worth the aggravation. In the end with my lost deposit I could have got a much nice place so I suggest trying somewhere else.

4 Clean, friendly staff, and great bargain
This is a great bargain hotel and is clean with friendly staff and a great bartender Robbie. Bahamian people are very polite and respectful so be the same towards them as they are wonderful people. Rooms were good and lack some amenities but what the heck for the price and you are two blocks from the Straw Market and the main street Bay Street. You are right in the middle of everything and the staff are more than happy to help you in any way they can. We stayed there during the Tropical Storm Noel, which missed Nassau, which was a good thing. Make this hotel your stop in Nassau for sure.

4 Initially I was apprehensive about staying downtown in this hotel because I thought it would be too busy, loud, and dirty downtown. however the experience at this hotel/hostel was great. (my overall experience in the Bahamas was wonderful but especially with the people/service at this hotel.) Apparently, the towne hotel is actually that a hotel that offers rooms at hostel prices but only if you book online. The rooms are basic but you will get a huge bed, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, colored television with remote, access to the cute pool downstairs and free internet service. There is a casual restaurant there so you can order food to eat downstairs or take it to your room if you like. By the way, you don't need to bring sheets or worry about how much a pillow case will cost you as there is daily cleaning service in the mornings where they change your sheets, towels and clean your bathroom. You will have all the privileges of everyone else who books this hotel but you will pay less (the hostel price) if you book online. The towne is located less than two blocks from the main downtown thoughough fair, and only three blocks from the party boat dock. (By the way, Please try the booze cruise -- either one to five p.m. or the seven to ten p.m. -- fantastic!) Up the road from the hotel is access to the beach. Bus rides through town are only a dollar -- take the number ten for a nice relaxing and cheap site-seeing ride or ask the front desk to tell you about the various tours and activities available. Across the street from the hostel is a wonderful church that is open for those who would like to say a quiet a prayer or two before starting or ending their day. The priest drinks a beer in the hotel lobby nightly. His name is Mr. Brennan, he is cool, you'll like him. Everyone is nice and hospitable. the only downside is that the pineapple juice at the hotel costs two dollars a glass so to save a few bucks, just hop around the 'Food Store' (that is what it is called) and by a huge can of whatever you want for two-fifty. Believe me, at any time, night or day they are more than happy to stock you up with ice for no charge).

5 I went alone to the Bahamas and I didn't really know what to expect. For the price, it is an excellent place to stay. The front desk is staffed 24/7 by very helpful and friendly people, you can come and go as you please (no curfews), there's free Internet access in the lobby, which helps a lot, the restaurant downstairs is convenient and the location is AWESOME! I wouldn't count on swimming in the pool but you're so close to the beautiful ocean...who cares?! You can swim in a pool at home. You're also really close to the harbor (to catch ferries to Atlantis/Paradise Island), restaurants, nightlife and shopping. The cleaning lady makes up your bed, straightens up, and replaces your soap and towels every night. I would stay there again and recommend it.
