2 This hotel is described as bright, spacious and recently renovated. It is certainly none of these, unless we were given the worst room! It was very small and very hot! We were supposed to stay 2 nights but moved to a much nicer hotel across the road for the second night. The only advantages are the roof terrace (perfect for a quiet cold beer after a day of sightseeing), and the staff's recommendation of a nice restaurant. But, I would certainly avoid this hotel. And, beware of booking on-line without viewing the rooms in person!

4 Although a little pricey (I paid 40 euro for a bed in a shared room) this hotel is pretty cool. It's really close to the center of town, and the staff are helpful, even the night manager in my experience! The room was a little dim, but the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and the shower was pretty good. The breakfast is not bad--coffee, croissants, juice, etc.--and the roof terrace is really nice. And if you are looking for REAL Italian food, and not the tourist muck you tend to find in Florence, there's a fantastic little restaurant right opposite. Go early or there'll be a queue of hungry Italians!

4 The staff are extremely nice and try to help you in any way they can. I had trouble understanding my tax-free papers, and the owner sat there with me with his Italian/English dictionary, trying to explain the whole thing. The night manager is a complete d*ckhead!! He yelled at me for trying to help my friend explain a problem. He hates Americans, and he refuses to speak English or Spanish or anything else other than Italian. I know this because he said it to me himself. The rooms are VERRRRY cold during the fall/winter, so take extra socks or warm sleep clothes. The beds are comfortable and clean. If you request to have the linen and towels changed everyday, they will do that for you. The shower is really weird though. It is a showerhead, surrounded by a little curtain, and there are no borders. So basically the whole floor gets all wet! Even the toilet...if you don't mind that, then this place is fine. I'm not much into budget travelling, but I had to stay here because the group I was with wanted to. I roughed it for 3 nights, and it went well. The location is also really good. When you are walking to the Duomo, you get to walk by one of the areas where leather goods and cashmere is sold. It only takes about 5 minutes to get there.
