We are 4 Canadian backpackers usually looking for 15-25 euro per night accommodations. This guest house usually asks for a higher price, but we lucked out as it was the off season.
We have never felt the need to review a hotel before, but this guest house did such an amazon job at making our stay comfortable that we felt the need to share our experience.
You'll be lucky if Steve the owner is in town! He went above and beyond what he needed to do. He showed us around multiple times, always making sure we knew how to navigate the maze of streets to find our way home. He was funny, down to earth, and warm throughout our entire stay.
The guest house is beautiful. It was recently restored, so everything is new and in perfect condition. Modern bathrooms in each room and a modern kitchen.
The breakfasts were the best we had all trip. Fresh fruit, bread, jams, etc.
The onsite manager arranged a tour for us with a guide. It was incredible. I have heard of other hostels arranging tours with guides who are only really interested in selling you goods. This guest house uses legit guides who care about their city and show it off well.
The housekeeper did our laundry for us free of charge. She was very friendly also.
All in all I would HIGHLY recommend this guest house to any age group. Our group is 24 years old and we had a great time. One of the other rooms had a mother and daughter stayin there who were around 40 and 70 - this really is a great place for everyone as the guest house, location, and staff made for the perfect introduction to morocco, making us feel safe and welcome.

We had a great stay at Dar Houdou. Steve is a very welcoming host, he and Mohammed (who organised the heroic breakfasts) made us feel very welcome. Very tucked away but actualy close to main Medina gate, an ideal base from which to explore old Fez. The roof top terrace was secluded and romantic, and it was welcome to be able to use the kitchen to have a break from eating out. Food markets nearby provided all the necessary ingredients. A lovely Riad.

The place was really nice, the man in the reception very friendly, the location is great. They helped us to organize one tour and gave us some tips. It`s a place where you can relax and enjoy quietly in the middle of busy market.

Dar Houdou means peace and calm and it truly lived up to this. Fantastic help and advice from manager steve and owner - both could not do enough for us during our stay. Breakfast was without a doubt the best on our Morrocan trip.

Lovely breakfast and Mohammed was most helpful with every whim that you need. There is onlt three bedrooms so the noise is minimal and the terrace is most relaxing. A great place to start off with when you first arrive in Fes.

Really friendly english owner and awesome breakfasts - it was just the two of us at the time (we went in the off-season) and they laid on a mini buffet for us, with a small of amount of everything - fresh fruit, crepes, cereals, bread, jams, moroccan pastries... Good quiet location within the medina, close to the blue gate and shopping areas.

The feeling of hospitality was unmatched at any other establishment on our trip. Steve and Mohammed were very friendly, approachable, and accommodating. Although we only stayed one night, they made us feel at home and had good recommendations and advice. The room was nice, and the bathroom provided for a much needed hot shower. The breakfast was great! The location is excellent...a quick walk to the highlights, but still a tucked a bit away from the madness. Nice views from the terrace. We greatly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again/recommend to others!
A pickup is worth the extra ~20 dirham, especially if this is your first stop in Morocco, as the medina can be quite difficult to navigate. Otherwise, you can try your luck with the street guides.

A nice place, clean, well decorated and comfortable. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The amenity of a kettle so we could make tea whenever we wanted was a welcome touch.

It was like sleeping in my own bedroom, nice and quiet, dark at night and a cool place in the hot afternoon.

Steve was so accommodating and helpful, really an invaluable and friendly resource! It felt like if there was anything we needed (which there wasn't!) it would've been much obliged. The property itself was immaculate and in the best of locations- right in the midst of the bustling Fez Medina, but so so peaceful and quiet! The breakfast each morning was perfect, a joy to wake for, with nothing overlooked, even freshly squeezed orange juice! I have truly never stayed in a more comfortable more beautifully and tastefully finished house. The stunning views from the terrace really completed the trip for me. It, thoroughly, was a pleasure, and definitely recommended.

An excellent place to stay! We backpacked in Spain and Morocco for two weeks, and this was our favorite place that we stayed. Steve is so helpful and easygoing, and the building and rooms are gorgeous. The breakfast was unbelievably delicious--cooked right in front of us!--and there's always bottled water, coffee and tea in the kitchen. The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot, and the rooftop terrace is not to be missed. Can't say enough good things about this amazing guest house! Don't miss it.

Our stay at Dar Houdou was fantastic! The owners of the guesthouse went above and beyond what we could ever expect. From restaurant recommendations to organising a tour guide/driver for us, Steven was incredibly helpful! The location is perfect (definitely worth organising a pick-up as the medina is a maze), the house is beautiful, rooms are comfortable and clean, and the breakfast was delicious. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to our friends.

We received a warm welcome and Mohamed the manager was very helpful. A comfortable and homely atmosphere, very well located in the Medina and also close to taxis if you want to explore outside the Medina. Delicious and generous breakfast. We enjoyed our stay.

we stayed in this hostel the end of december and it's one of the greatest hostels weve ever been. It's typical morrocan, in the same time modern and fancy. Charming atmosphere, great manager(thank you Mohammad), exellent breakfast, nice location...in the city we've liked most.
