The Hostelz.com Review
Yasmina is situated a few minutes' walk from the beach, right in the centre of Dahab’s hippie hub making it a cheap and convenient backpacker hostel. Given its large swimming pool and air conditioning, this hostel has more to offer than its similarly priced rivals. However, the overly pushy staff and rather unsafe rooms do let it down somewhat.
The Location
Hostel Yasmina is located in Masbat, downtown Dahab, the heart of this one-time hippie beach resort. It is slightly off the beachfront and since there are so many hotels, restaurants, bars, and hostels lined side by side, it can be difficult to find at first. A taxi or pickup from the bus station is useful. There are many competing taxis available to and from the bus station. The staff or one of the many travel agencies dotted along the beachfront can also arrange transport to your next destination.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are quite small, although there are some larger rooms you could get upon request. Dorms have three or four beds; private rooms are either doubles or three-bed family rooms with en-suite bathrooms. They are equipped with a fridge, air conditioning, and satellite TV. There is a large, communal balcony running in front of each of the rooms with pleasant views overlooking the large, central swimming pool. To the rear of the rooms are very small private balconies overlooking the road behind the hotel. These balconies are too small to sit on and are overlooked by large air conditioner extractors.
The bathrooms are reasonably clean and there are hooks on the back of the bathroom doors for clothes and toiletries. The shower, like most of the ones in hotels in Dahab, is unfortunately salt water.
We found our room to have a few flaws. Firstly, we had the unpleasant experience of being electrocuted every time we touched the shower taps. Secondly, one of us split his head on the sharp rusty corner of the extractor box out on the private balcony and had to seek medical attention with subsequent stitches from the local doctor.
Common Spaces
The pool, which is the main feature of the hostel, is large and deep and surrounded by sun loungers. There are a few tables and chairs for having food or drinks poolside. There is also a pool table near the swimming pool in front of the reception area, as well as a computer suite and a restaurant on the premises. The promised Wi-Fi unfortunately didn’t work when we were there. There is a sociable and bustling young crowd of budget backpackers frequenting this hostel, contributing to a fun, lively atmosphere.

Overall, this is a cheap, bustling backpacker hostel with a big sociable centre by the pool. However the place needs to be maintained to a higher standard in safety and functionality, given the broken Wi-Fi, dangerous electrics, and sharp edges. And the staff will try every opportunity to sign you up to their various trips and/or scuba courses. The tour organizer working within the hotel is quite pushy -- he wanted to chat and meet to discuss trip plans frequently, which was a bit overbearing.
