Description
Once you've had enough of the hustle and bustle of tourists, street vendors and tour operators….head south! Tucked away off the beaten track, in the middle of dolphin territory, you'll find a serene little spot where you can recharge, relax and generally reconnect with the natural beauty of Zanzibar.

Coral Reef offers 6 comfortable, double en-suite bungalows with fans, and airconditioners, window gauze and efficient mosquito nets covering the spacious traditional, hand carved Zanzibari beds, all nestled within a shady, well treed garden on the beach.

While remaining reasonably priced, our restaurant, Pomboo's, overlooking the azure ocean, is quickly becoming famous as the best place to eat on the south shore. Food is prepared to order and uses the freshest ingredients bought locally. The menu combines a continental cuisine prepared with Zanzibari style.

Kila Kitu Kimoja Adventure Trips, based at Coral Reef, offers daily dhow excursions . These include dolphin viewing trips, with an opportunity to swim with these enchanting creatures. Enjoying a 90% success rate, we also hold important other sightings, like flying fish, sail fish and marlin and occasionally the ultimate delight of spotting hump backed whales.
Another available trip is to Uzi Island. This includes sailing or motoring to Uzi Island, reef snorkeling along the way, to explore the mangrove trails in search of the resident Red Colobus monkeys. Packed luncheon and refreshments, from Coral Reef's Pomboo Restaurant, are served in a natural coral 'restaurant' on the beach – a deeply satisfying experience!! Life jackets and snorkeling gear are provided for both trips.

Coral Reef can be reached by local Dala dala transport – costing about $2 - regular taxi – should cost about $40 - $45 per vehicle, or a hired car – should cost between $25 and $30 per day to hire. The road is good except for the last ½ km, which is untarred, but still acessible in most Zanzibari vehicles.

Bicycles can be hired at a pretty nominal fee from a local concern.
Places of interest to visit in the area include the oldest mosque in East Africa as well as getting a snapshot of what is reputed to be the oldest baobab on the island. Scuba diving trips, including gear, can also be arranged if given prior notice. And, of course, there are always peaceful picturesque strolls on the beach.
