There are few things which you can do in Kalpitiya and one of the most important being kitesurfing in Kalpitiya from May till September.
"Ruuk Village" is directly situated at the Kalpitiya main lagoon where you have perfect wind conditions for beginners and advanced kiters alike. From May until end of September the traders winds allows Ruuk Village to host Kiters among other travelers. Kitesurfing in Kalpitiya and kitesurfing in Sri Lanka is a becoming a famous sport for travelers of all ages.
From November until April the dolphin and whale watching season starts. This is due to the fact that the winds die out and the ocean becomes flat so that you can easily spot the dolphins in hunderds and if you are lucky blue whales too. Mostly the guests are taken to the beach on the other side of the lagoon in our house boat and then from there a a another boat which is suitable for deep waters come and pick you up. And depending on the wind conditions the boat travels about 2 to 3 km away from the beach towards the known dolphins habitats. Dolphins are mostly in search of tuna fish and there are also few fishermen fishing for tuna in very ecological way, where they use nylon threads with bait. When the boat spots fishermen who are fishing for Tuna mostly you are not far from swans of dolphins. As if the dolphins know that you are watching them they will then start to jump out of the water and deliver a stunning acrobatics session. Even baby dolphins start their acts to impress their visitors.

• By car:
• - coming from the international airport of srilnka: You should drive towards puthlam and at Palavi junction you turn towards kalpitiya and Travel all the way to the centre of Kalpitiya town ( 44 Km).
• - When you have pass Kalpitiya postoffice then at the next junction take the road towards Kalpitiya Bus stand on 'Muhathuwaram Road', we also call it the "Thoradiya Jetty" where fishermen dry their fish.
• - Drive pass the Bus stand what you find on your right hand side and travel all the way up to lagoon, and when yuo are at the lagoon, look to your left and look for two flags, one is Red and the other one is Blue.
• - When you reach the town centre call our reception and they will come to the jetty to pick you up by boat if the water level of the lagoon has risen.

• By Bus
• - take a bus from colombo or the international airport to Puthlam or directly to Kalpitiya.
• - To speed up travelling, you can get in to a bus which travels either to "Jaffna" "Mannar" or Anuradhapura", that way the bus want be stopping at every bus stand to pick up traverllers.
• - Ask the driver of the bus to drop you off at 'Palavi Junction'
• - from there take the Bus coming from Puthlam to Kalpitiya. But if it is too late its better to take a Tuk Tuk from there to "Ruuk Village". Or ask our reception to send a TukTuk to pick you up, this needs to be arranged in advance.
• - If you take a tuk tuk from Palavi Junction to the "Ruuk Village", it will be something like 2000 Sri lankan rupees.
