"The Hilltop Hostel is loacated in the Takoma quarter in the nothern part of Washington close to Spring Hill. But the infrastructure is perfect because the metro station is just fifty meters away -- you can get downtown via the Red Line Metro in just thirteen minutes. The metro operates from 5 a.m. until 3 a.m. so you can even have fun downtown and get back to the hostel very late. There is...
"HI - Washington, D.C. boasts both a good location and good atmosphere. The second after you enter the hall, you know they’ve been doing it for ages. Everything is very well organized and prepared for serving as many backpackers as possible. So the place is big and crowded and anonymous, however the staff is very nice and helpful. They organize a a daily program you can join to explore...
"Although it is located in D.C.'s less desirable (for safety) Northeast quadrant, the Capitol City Hostel offers an much cheaper alternative than others in the U.S. Capitol. For safety reasons, there is no big hostel sign letting everyone know that this particular rowhouse (townhouse) is for tourists and backpackers. You can only identify it by the house number and a small sign notice beside...
(Adams Morgan)
"I stayed in the hostel in September of 2003. I found the place to be fine. If the driver is not available you are asked to get a cab and told what the fare is. You are reimbursed upon arrival. How can anyone complain about a "free breakfast"? If you want a hearty breakfast you should expect to be paying for it. The hostel is located in Adams Morgan which is known as one of the nightlife...

"Walking along the E Capitol Street SE, you can find many exquisite, colorful houses, and William Penn House is one of them -- peaceful and quiet. From the house, it's about fifteen minutes' walk to the back of the Capitol Building, and another five minutes to the front of it. However, the transportation is not so convenient, as the nearest metro station is about five blocks away. (the blocks...

"Don't Settle for this Hostel - The website is terribly misleading. There is no air conditioning and very few rooms have lockers for guests. The staff is often times rude and derogatory, treating their guests like children. The atmosphere is decent when it's not swelteringly hot inside the house. There are no meals provided "once a week." Food that is stored in the refrigerator is routinely...

The monuments are beautiful at night! Also, during the summer, check out the internationally focused fairs by the National Art Museum/on the National Mall. There was one for Israel and one for the Philippines while I was there and they had concerts and delicious, authentic cuisine! There are jazz nights on the National Archives too -- all free -- and the sangria you can buy there is delicious.

If you are looking for a cheap vacation, this is it! All the museums, monuments, and a great zoo -- totally free. You can find cheap good eats everywhere and for the cost of a day pass on the Metro or a great pair of walking shoes you can get everywhere!
