On the outside, the city of Pendleton, Oregon looks like a little rural area that’s only worth passing through. However, Pendleton is actually a very interesting town with a unique history. It’s one of the largest cities in Eastern Oregon, and definitely one of the most intriguing cities in the whole state.
This city has a western ranching feel to it, especially during the Pendleton Round-Up, which is definitely worth seeing if you visit when it is in progress. Pendleton is also the birthplace of Pendleton Woolen Mills, which manufactures high-quality blankets, clothing, and old-west themed merchandise. There are also several museums and other annual events that are often of interest to visitors.
Although there aren't many hostels in Pendleton because the city doesn’t have large enough of a population to support and run many, backpackers will nevertheless enjoy the hostels that are available. City residents appreciate visitors, so Pendleton hostel employees tend to be very happy to help make you feel at home in your hostel. In fact, Pendleton hostel rooms are generally given to distant backpackers before they are rented out to locals. Only basic amenities are usually provided, but you won't really notice since you’ll probably be out exploring the town all day.
