This was a fantastic place, loved the waterfall. Tour was really good, even swimming in the mangroves. I got to see a lot of wildlife -- apparently unusual for this time of year. I recommend the Everglades as a place to stay but you will need a car or hook up with friendly people.
Everglades is a National Park in Florida, USA. Florida City and Homestead are the two closest towns to Everglades and the most common places for travelers to stay while doing trips through the vast Everglades park area.
Everglades hostels are of good quality and the prices are average for U.S standards. Bear in mind that the Everglades area can be extremely hot during summertime (the park sometimes offers discounted entry fees to encourage visitors), and there will be plentiful amounts of small, buzzing wildlife (not just mosquitoes) around you. Make sure you have enough bug repellent with you.
The Everglades is a massive area, most well known because of the alligators. Alligators aside, the ecosystem of the national park is impressive, and if you like the great outdoors, you can easily spend days in the area just doing different hikes and activities that the area offers. Most Everglades hostels are in the Florida City / Homestead area and will provide you with organized activities, maps, and info about the national park. This is a great way to get started. However, we recommend that you do some research on your own first, so that you can make the most of your time in this great national park.
The closest airport to the Everglades area is in Miami. The areas near the park (Florida City) are served by road routes 1, 821, and 997. In the United States, it is a huge advantage if you have your own car (or a rental), so you should consider this when preparing for your trip. The prices for rentals are very competitive in the States.
