"Adore Plaza was absolutely the best hostel I stayed in during my 5 month trip in Europe. In a fantastic location, good and clean facilities, helful staff. Very good indeed to meet a great bunch of people and to chill out." … "I have been at this hostel twice and I definitely recommend it. It was so nice, right in the center of the old town and close to all the bars, shops and beaches. The...

"With a location directly on the boulevard, Enjoy's main hostel is a convenient place to stay, with excellent balconies and a friendly staff. Being a Busabout Hostel, the place is busy and almost always requires a reservation between June and September. They also run three other nice hostels in town, all well located just off the boulevard and with nice decoration. Bathrooms are clean, beds...
"Fantastic! - Hostal Olga was the best hostel i stayed in over my three-week trip. Although not cheap, at 30 euros a night, it was well worth it! Drinks on the terrace every night meant we met so many other travelers and had an awesome time! The beach was a minute away, and I was there for the jazz fest, meaning beach parties till 4 a.m. each night! The place was clean and friendly. Olga was...

I'm Ion, a backpacker like you, that inspired in my trips around the world and with a big hope has opened the doors of my house in the Old Town in Donostia (San Sebastian) at 2 minutes walking from the famous La Concha beach, protected from the attacks of the...
This is a very nice and friendly hostel to stay, with comfortable and clean rooms and the possibility to use the kitchen. We offer Private Rooms and Dorms in the heart of the old town. Here is where the night life takes place as you are in the middle of the city, yet just a few minutes walk to both beaches if chilling out is more your style! The beaches are Zurriola (the surf point) and La...

"What else to say than most of the hostel owners in Spain should have a look at Alai-berri and learn how it is done. Free breakfast, eggs, tea, and coffee all day. Perfect Kitchen, free internet, and laundry. A place where you can really connect with other travelers and have fun, plus the location is great, out the door and one minute to the beach. Wow is all there is to say." … "This was...
Slap bang in the centre of town. Not the noisy old town but a brisk walk away from it as well as both beaches. Two different apartments but both in a good location. Our priority is that u have fun here. No nagging granny and her kiddies sharing u place!Another important part of having fun here is a good host. You will have a pick of three seasoned pros that have spent two entire summers here,...

"I had a fantastic time at Anne. This is a small, really clean, and nice hostel. The location is absolutely perfect, relaxed, and intimate atmosphere, helpful staff. Definitely my home away from home." … "We booked in this hostel and when we arrived there was nobody at the reception. We tried to get in contact with the owner; we left a message on her mobile and didn't get an answer. We...
"Crazy place! I loved it. The owner was straight out of an Almodovar movie and the two English/Spanish speakers in the reception were so much fun. Definitely the place I'll stay in if I return." … "Beware of the pictures on this site: they don't show the real hostel. This place was the most dirty—expensive—gross place I've been to. The guy who runs it is a complete freak. When I was here,...

"This hostel was WONDERFUL. The owner was so sweet — he was booked the next night so he found us another place to stay. It was cheap, very clean, and in the center of everything. I think that at Pension San Jeronimo I slept in the most comfortable bed I have slept in while I was in Spain. There were even free maps provided and travel information. It was quiet (except for the bar below) and had...

San Sebastián Travel Tips & Suggestions

The food is superb -- the traditional dining clubs encourage good eating, the old town is full of bars restaurants and interesting shops. The beach is superb and the harbour has great restaurants. They have interesting churches -- climb up to the statue of Christ find out about the Basque culture (especially by reading the slogans added to the buildings every night). Pintxos are very special, tapas cannot compare. Travel further out north, south, or east and discover Biarritz, Bilbao, and Pamplona -- they're all within easy reach.

I will always remember San Sebastian and I would go back to visit it. We arrived on my birthday driving from a wet Bordeaux to pitch a tent and catch a bus down to the town. The weather cleared up and we had some fantastic tapas in a picturesque square and a beautiful walk along the beach. It's a fantastic, family-oriented place too.

San Sebastian is one of the most beautiful areas in the world, and certainly the most beautiful in Spain. Quaint and old-world, but with all the modern amenities. Great pintxos (tapas), beach, and overall, a gorgeous city!

The greatest city in the world!

I visited San Sebastian back in 1994 and I didn't like it. I was expecting a very quaint, very Basque town and I was disappointed on both counts- I could hardly hear any Basque being spoken and it looks much like any other Spanish city, i.e. very urban. As for the beach, it is the kind where people go surfing, not swimming, so expect wind and waves. The surrounding countryside, however, is gorgeous, green and lush, right there with Devon or Ireland.

I went to San Sebastian for Carnival. It was a great experience, lots of culture a and really nice people. It is also the tapas capital that can't be missed. Even when i's cold in the winter there is still plenty to see.

San Sebastian is one of the most gorgeous beach/view/city combos I've ever seen. Great night life and pintxos, too.

I think the beaches are wonderful and the people there are great!

Sand (!) beaches and bars. That's about all this place has got, and it's what they do well. Good place to relax and Bilbao (with the Guggenheim) isn't to far a train ride away.
