This is a complete list of all known hostels in Isle of Skye. If you know of a Isle of Skye hostel that isn't listed here, please use the "Add a New Hostel" link at the bottom of the page.
"Tucked away at the base of the southern Cuillin Ridge, this small hostel aspires to a 'rustic' character. Fortunately for travellers, the measures taken to promote that style don't get in the way of it being a very liveable hostel. The owners, Colin and Niki, are the only staff; they keep to themselves, but are very friendly, and if you hang around into the late morning you might catch a...
(Kyleakin)
"This was a small, lovely hostel. My husband and I were even able to get a small double room, which was nice and clean, and even decent linens--all this for not much more than the cost of the dorm rooms per person. Prices were very reasonable for a hostel, considering this is Great Britain. The shower and bathroom were in the hall, but also nice and clean. This was a social hostel, where you...
(Broadford)
"Broadford's alright - not the cosiest of places & on one occasion 5 out of the 6 people in our dorm ended up sleeping in the lounge because this simply enormous American woman was snoring like a trooper...AND she had the gall to come down in the morning and hurl abuse at us for waking her up with all our moving about!!!!!!! Argh! Fortunately the staff let us stay inside all day for free and...
(Uig)
The eerie pinnacles of the Quiraing, the famous Old Man of Storr, and the magical fairy Glen are not far from Uig. Locally, you can hire bikes and canoes or try pony trekking. Get away from the tourist hoards, our relaxed and friendly hostel is an ideal base for exploring the wild north of the Island. "High up on the south side of the village, with exhilarating views over the bay”. - Rough...
(Portnalong)
"The feeling at this place was incredibly relaxed and friendly. It was like staying in someone's home, so warm!!" … "I visited 2 years ago. It was very clean and friendly with great views." … "Skyewalker Hostel, in beautiful Portnalong, is ideally situated for accessing the Cuillin Mountain range and makes a great base for exploring the rest of the island. A warm welcome and true...
(Kyleakin)
"The Dun Caan Hostel, in the first town on the Isle of Skye from Kyle of Lochlash, is an extremely warm and cozy place with exceptional owners who make the stay more like a bed and breakfast than a youth hostel. It is located on the tiny harbour of Kyleakin with views of the water and boats, quaint houses set into the hills, and the picturesque castle ruins seen from all the dorm rooms, lounge,...
"The Dun Flodigarry hostel is situated on the North Western side of the Isle of Skye in a rather remote area. Most tourists are in the region for a day trip, being attracted to the site of the nearby Quirang -- a picturesque view of oddly-shaped rock formations. The hostel's location gives you the feeling that you are getting away from it all and can spend your day relaxing looking out at the...
(Portree)
"Portree Independent Hostel is first and foremost extraordinarily convenient. An olive building with coloured trim and great sign out front, it is a distinctive building in distinctive surroundings, and you catch sight of it on the way in and it turns out to be only fifty meters from bus stop in the town center. You do pay a little for this convenience (and the fact that it's the only hostel...
(Sleat)
"The last ferry from Mallaig gets to Armadale around 4 p.m., and that may be the one you want to take since the Armadale Youth Hostel has a lockout all day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They have good signage from the dock and a walking path to use, so you're not walking on the one-lane road through Armadale (which consists of some public toilets, a very small convenience store, a B&B and a pub). It's...
(Kyleakin)
"Arriving in Kyleakin, you'll find the Kyleakin Youth Hostel along the main strip just over the bridge, just across the street from the water. The building is blue and white -- tough to miss, and flanked by a couple of pubs. Walking inside, you'll see a large common area to the left, and reception toward the right, where you'll also find internet access for a very reasonable price....
"I planned to stay for 2 nights, but ended up there for a week! It's in a brill location to explore Skye, and there's a good pub just up the road. The owner gave useful tips regarding local walks and places to see. The hostel itself was clean and cosy. Overall, I'd definitely recommend the place." … "Bloody brilliant...my sister & I stayed here for a few nights whilst waiting for a new job...
(Carbost)
"The Waterfront Bunkhouse is situated on the shores of Loch Harport and boasts splendid views of the Cuillin hills. Ideal for hillwalkers, climbers or central for backpackers the bunkhouse provides 24 fully bedded bunks, fully equipped kitchen and balcony overlooking the loch. 3 rooms house 4 persons with one of the rooms en suite and two rooms have six bunks each. All rooms have excellent...
(Sleat)
"Awe-inspiring location. Sleat is amazing...lots of options for beds (dorms, family rooms etc) and hostel owner keen to divulge local stories and history (especially on the Macdonalds!). A wee bit out of the way for us as we were travelling without a car but worth the trip - moreso if there's a group of you so you can pool your drinks and have your own private ceilidh!" … "The Flora...
"Great set up if you're with a group and want to do walking (right across the stream from Sligachan hotel/bar). It's like a wee cottage with a few rooms of bunks, two central lounges (with wood provided) and a fantastic kitchen. The only downside was metered heating - we were on a zero budget so nearly froze to death (until another group arrived and started putting money in!) Oh, and linen...

Isle of Skye Travel Tips & Suggestions

Comment by Sira
Isle of Skye is a charming island with magic atmosphere, produced by the fog, rain, magnificent cliffs, leafy vegetation, and the sea. It seems incredible that there still remains a place like that on earth, so near home. Portree, the little capital, is a wonderful place with coloured houses (pink, blue, yellow, green) and a small port full of boats. Somebody told me that the inhabitants of Skye had never seen the sun. I don't know if it's true or not, but it's possible (I didn't see the sun in the seven days I stayed there in August 2006). But it doesn't matter, because the island is completely amazing. I highly recommend this fabulous place!

If you plan to visit Skye, plan to take the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale -- much nicer than the bridge at Lochalsh. A Scottish Piper will greet you at the dock, and the ferry ride is beautiful. Skye is a mystical place, with its blazing sun one minute and torrential downpours the next. Portree is a colorful step back in time and the Gaelic language is everywhere.

Easily one of the most breathtaking places on Earth. Friendly people. Kylakin (first town across the bridge from the mainland) is beautiful, but venture out to the edges and coasts of Skye to see jaw-dropping beauty. Wow, wow, wow.
