"Oban Backpackers is a friendly hostel with extremely pleasant common space. The reception, living room, eating area, pool table, TV area, and fireplace are all in the same room, and it gives a very social atmosphere to the whole hostel. The kitchen is big and well organised. Remember to name and date your food and beer -- or else some one will chuck it out or drink it. The showers are clean and it's easy to avoid the queues - 'cos there aren't any! The many showers though don't make up...
"I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed my time at the Oban Youth Hostel! One of the staff (Philip) woke us up on Christmas morning with an impromptu bagpipe concert, and we shared our Christmas dinner with four different nationalities of people. We made fast friends from South Africa and Paris during our weeklong stay, and have exchanged visits with our Parisian friend already. The atmosphere was friendly and warm, the hostel was clean and well kept, and we felt ourselves very safe and slept...
"Jeremy Inglis Hostel is conveniently located near the tourist information/ferries/bus and train stations (all within five minutes' walk) at 21 Airds Crescent. If you don't have a map, use the outdoor map at the tourist info center -- it's very close! Oban is served by bus/ferry and train. On arrival, follow the signs to the tourist info, a couple of minutes' walk from the waterfront. You'll be at a roundabout, and the hostel is located pretty much straight across the roundabout and around...

Oban Travel Tips & Suggestions

I was in Oban in August 2006 and I found it a very nice place -- quiet, small, perfect to visit by walking, and the inhabitants were tremendously kind. I loved its marine atmosphere and its "strange" weather -- it rained for ten minutes, then it stopped and there was sun for ten minutes more, and then it began raining again for ten minutes, then sunny. It was fun! Oh, and don't forget to raise your sight to the top of the hill -- you will see something like a coliseum, which actually is the mausoleum of a town's rich man.

When in Oban be sure to eat some Irish stew at O'Donnell's Irish Pub. The food is great and the staff is amazing.

Oban is a really cute place. You stay here for a night as part of the wonderful Macbackpackers tours and that's enough time to look around. Go to the old fashioned lollie shop. It's FABULOUS!!!
