Dundee Hostels

Dundee, the self proclaimed City of Discovery, is the fourth-largest metropolis in Scotland in terms of population and is situated on the estuary of the River Tay, Scotland's longest river. There are excellent transport links to and from your Dundee hostel and all over Scotland and the UK by bus and train and to a lesser extent by air. The city is home to two universities (University of Dundee and the University of Abertay) and this large student population has ensured a variety of nightlife and thriving live music scene, which has seen a number of local bands, including The View, achieve chart success.

There are many Dundee hotels and an increasing number of hostels to cater to the increasing number of tourists who want to see more of Scotland's cities than just Edinburgh. While Dundee may not be as beautiful architecturally as Edinburgh, it's a thriving city with a bit of justified swagger.

There is a lot to do in Dundee and the surrounding area for the tourist staying at a Dundee hostel. There are two maritime attractions, which reflect Dundee's shipbuilding heritage -- The Unicorn, the oldest ship in the world still afloat, and the ice-breaker, The Discovery, which Scott used on his ill-fated voyage to the North Pole. Other attractions include a round at St. Andrews, Home of Golf (only twenty minutes by train) and the excellent McManus Galleries. You can also visit one of the city's two football rivals -- Dundee United (which is the more famous and successful) and Dundee FC (known locally as the Wee Team). The stadiums are only a hundred metres apart in the Hilltown area. Dundee is home to one of the UK's only public observatories. Great views of the city and over to Fife are to be had from Law Hill, an extinct volcano.
