Apia Hostels

Apia is the capital of Samoa and features many colonial buildings, a stunning landscape, and an impressive harbour.

If you are looking for a hostel in Apia, you should try to stay in the center of the city. The city itself is pretty small and all sights are within walking distance.
If you are arriving at the Faleolo Airport, a taxi will take about 50 - 60 minutes and cost about 50 Samoan Tala. However, the public transport system is of very limited use for tourists because even though there are public buses they do not have a fixed schedule and it is difficult to figure out which route they are on. If you go out of town while staying in an Apia hostel, make sure to catch a bus back to Apia by midday unless you plan to stay overnight.

You can easily walk around the city from your Apia hostel; the best time to do so is in the morning or late afternoon when it is not so hot. If you do not want to walk, the easiest way to get around are taxis. They are inexpensive but make sure to ask a local what your fare should be and agree on it before entering the taxi because tourists tend to be overcharged by the drivers. You can also rent a car but be aware that traffic is quite chaotic and roads are often in poor condition.

While you are visiting an Apia hostel, make sure to walk around the city center and see the beautiful old colonial buildings and beautiful Apia cathedral. Visit the Parliament House and the observatory on the western end of the city and take a tour to the Robert Louis Stevenson museum where the famous writer spent the last years of his life.
