Brzeg -- a small, Polish town in Silesia -- has a population of forty thousand people and it has quite a few historical monuments. One of the most beautiful and important Polish Renaissance monuments is Brzeg Town Hall -- it was built in the second half of the sixteenth century and it is known as the seat of the government of Brzeg. Inside the building is a beautiful Ceiling Hall (Sala Stropowa), which is made of larch wood, and Council Hall (Sala Rajców), where you can see lovely wall paintings.
Those who love religious architecture should definitely go to see the beautiful baroque Holy Cross Church (Kościół Podwyższenia Krzyża Świętego), which is covered with interesting frescoes. Next to this church is Brzeg Castle (Zamek), which was the main residence of the Silesian Piast Dynasty in the past and currently serves as the Museum of Silesian Piast, which also offers a valuable collection of medieval art, foreign paintings, Silesian coins, and many other things. If you are interested in history and art, you should pay a visit to this museum.
Near Brzeg Castle, by the River Odra, is a lovely park with interesting species of trees and shrubs. You will also find there Odrzańska Gate, which was known in the past as a defensive wall. Other fascinating architectural objects are the bridge over the River Odra and St. Nicholas' Church -- one of the largest Gothic churches in Silesia from the fourteenth century.
For those who just want to relax and have fun, Aquapark is a lovely water park because it offers an indoor swimming pool with a sixty-four-meter-long water slide and a jacuzzi. The safety of swimmers is also assured by lifeguards.
Unfortunately, the selection of Brzeg hostels and other wallet-friendly sleeping options is not great, but what you can find is ok and will be located just a short walk from the main square and the central train station.
