Molde, the city of jazz and roses, is located on the west coast of Norway. It is surrounded by mountains up to a thousand meters and it is also located next to a fjord. Due to its amazing views and central location, it is a popular harbor for cruise ships and a nice stop for people traveling along the Norwegian coast. It is the perfect stop between the Atlantic Road, Geiranger, and Ålesund. There are not many hostels in Molde, so it's best to book in advance. The Molde International Jazz Festival is held annually in July and all accommodation is fully booked for this period months in advance.
Molde is easy to reach, it has an airport with daily flights to Oslo, Trondheim, and Bergen. It is also possible to take the train to Åndalsnes and the bus from there to Molde.
The most popular tourist attraction in Molde is the panoramic view over the city and the fjord from the Varden viewpoint. Other than that, you can visit the open-air museum Romsdalsmuseet, and in summertime there is a ferry to Hjertoya, where you can hike and swim. In wintertime you can go skiing at Tusten or cross-country skiing on the many kilometers of prepared slopes. Molde also has one of the top soccer clubs in Norway and it is almost always possible to get tickets to a match. Those who are interested in architecture can visit the Seilet hotel, the stadium, the swimming pool, and the library -- all interesting buildings. The city is compact, so when you are staying at a hostel in Molde, it should be possible to walk everywhere.
