This is a complete list of all known hostels in Queenstown. If you know of a Queenstown hostel that isn't listed here, please use the "Add a New Hostel" link at the bottom of the page.
"Bumbles Backpackers is nestled on the shores of Lake Wakapitu, about three hundred meters outside of the Queenstown city centre. This hostel's variety of services and million dollar views make it a must-stay when looking for a place to lay your head at night. Common areas close around 11 p.m.,...
"From the moment of arrival, The Last Resort is something special. It's like walking into someone's home, from the front door leading into the well-equipped and clean (but modest) kitchen, and opening into the living room which is well-stocked with couches, coffee tables, TV, VCR, DVD player, and...
(Central)
"Discovery Lodge is a newer hostel with great location, excellent facilities, and a definite backpacker scene. It's located a block up from the lake on one of the main streets through town, Shotover Street (look for the hostel's sign), within walking distance of everything. Discovery Lodge is one...
"If you want to make new friends, be close to town and the gondola, and enjoy a good laugh as well as stunning mountain and lake views, go to Southern Laughter. This hostel is just a few minutes' walk from the bus station, shops, and cafes in the centre of town, and an equal distance from the...
"Situated right beside the lake and only a short walk from the hub of the town centre, Queenstown YHA offers a relaxing and friendly place to stay with exceptional facilities. Everything you could possibly need is here - laundry with an outside clothes line and drying room, TV room with comfy...
"Hippo Lodge is a wonderful place to stay. It is situated on a steep hill, so whether you are in a en-suite room or in dorms, it has great views of Queenstown. It has a friendly vibe, but we were still able to sleep well as it was not noisy at all. The buildings are in good condition, and it...
"I rate the Black Sheep as one of my all time favourite hostels ever. It has fantastic friendly staff; has a real homey atmosphere with a large, cosy lounge; and has the perfect location just overlooking town. If you want a fantastically friendly experience then Black Sheep is the way forward. I...
"I was sad to leave this place. It's awesome, one of the best places I've stayed. Mitzi and Dan are quality and know their stuff about the area and activities. The hostel is cozy and clean and there's free soup at 6 every night." … "v friendly, v fun, v chilled out. Best hostel in the...
"Nice place to stay. Very central without being noisy. A bit weird that there was carpet on the walls, but everything was clean and we had a TV in our room. Used to be a hotel and its not been renovated since so it looks a little tired. Kitchen is small but not busy, is on the top floor and has...
"We booked a double room, which was situated in a shared unit type thing with three other rooms, with a shared kitchen, toilet and shower. There is no such 'bathroom' - just a tiny dirty basin within a room which looks as if it was previously a bathroom. The kitchen and its containments were all...
Melbourne House is located 400m or 4 minute walk to town centre. Your hosts Ann, Allister and Andy have a great reputation for their personal service. They pride themselves on their local knowledge and will assist you with any questions and reservations you wish to make. Guest House units...
"I stayed here about a year ago when reforms were on. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I would highly recommend a good stay here. If I remember rightly, there are two ways to get to the hostel and one is a nasty hill, which should be avoided" … "This hostel is located just...
"Queenstown is built on some pretty steep slopes, but Alpine Lodge is in a great location as you don't have any hills to contend with on you five minute walk to or from the town centre. The hostel has two lounges and two kitchens. The downstairs lounge and kitchen are at the heart of things,...
"Aspen Lodge advertises itself as the newest of Queenstown hostels but it's a bit rundown and could use a facelift. The sealing around our room's windows and door were coming off, making it tricky to close securely (and keep out noise and cold), and the fabric on the lounge chairs were a bit...
"Resort Lodge, a BBH hostel, is located on a little, quiet street, but is still near the main road of Shotover Street. If you are traveling by Intercity/Newmans coaches, the hostel is only two streets away from their bus stop along Athol Street. From there, you walk along Shotover Street toward...
"From first appearance, Backpackers Downtown Logde looks like a nice little place to stay, and the sign outside the door advertises a low rate, which includes breakfast. You might think you have landed yourself a deal! The staff at Downtown are laid back and chilled. However, this is a flaw when...
"A lovely hostel, ably run by Gemma, the manager who is very friendly and professional. It's clean and cosy with wonderful views. I would definitely recommend it." … "I forgot to say in my comment that the bears I saw in the woods were fake. So don't worry, they were dummies for a German TV...
"This place is small and friendly." … "A visit to Queenstown is incomplete without a night -- if not more -- stayed at this awesome cost little hostel. Rob the owner is the man." … "Spent some time here. small, cheap, very friendly, good location, always something going on." … 34...

Queenstown Travel Tips & Suggestions

Queenstown is on the edge of a huge mountain. So depending on where you are at, it offers great views of the surrounds. There is not many locals here as much of the people coming here are tourists, so walking through town you know that it caters for the tourist. Do go and walk in the botanical gardens. It is almost hidden away, right by the lakeside. There are bowls, tennis, and even frisby golf to play. The park is a hidden gem. There are also a few small towns arround to explore.
