"Loved it - We stayed at Duke Backpackers for three nights and it was one of the best. The managers and hosts were very friendly and helped us a lot with travel planning and tips about the area. The entire place was very, very clean. Very comfortable beds. A hot soup in the evening and free breakfast. Lovely colours and lots of free stuff -- DVDs, pool table, coffee and tea, hot water bottles, and one beer. The location is also great, very centre of town. "Spacious and clean Kitchen and Lounge areas, friendly staff. - Driving around in the rain a few days ago, my boyfriend and I, were only delighted in land ourselves on the comfy couches in the Lounge of Neptunes, cook a nice meal in the huge kitchen, and have a lovely hot shower -- all for only $10 each (we slept in our van). "yes, it's a bit of an old place, and perhaps needs redecoration. However it has character, and it makes a change from staying in pristine hostels which can be a bit austere. The kitchen facilities are a bit poor, but adequate for a small number of travelers. There's nothing seriously bad about this place and it's an ok place to spend a night or two. Greymouth Travel Tips & Suggestions

I love the place! It has a real New Zealand feel to it. With the river right in the middle of town and the harbour not far, there's plenty of free sightseeing to be had. All the basics are there like cinema, supermarkets, choice of restaurants, and bars. The Monteith's Brewery tour is well worth it, there's plenty of beach, river, and hilly walks and of course the usual activities such as caving, quadbiking, and guided tours. There's also an excellent selection of accommodation for such a small place, but then it is the West Coast with plenty of scenery and nothing else between townships and Greymouth is the largest town! — Claire
