About Napier Hostels

The small city of Napier is home to the biggest accumulation of Art Deco buildings in the Southern Hemisphere and that is definitely a good reason to go there. Some of them are even transformed into hostels in Napier, so you can even call one your home for a night.

If you are looking for a Napier hostel, there are really not that many options, and the hostels are generally located in the city center. Make sure to book your hostel in advance if you are visiting in summer, especially in February when the annual Art Deco festival is held and the city is packed with tourists. In winter it is very quiet and most Napier hostels will even offer a special winter rate.

You will probably be arriving by bus which will drop you off at the waterfront, just a short walk away from the city center. The public transport system is available, but not very helpful. If you are there on a weekend or want to go to one of the outlying wineries, it might be a good idea to rent a car. While you are there, make sure to take an Art Deco walk, visit the local museum, and learn something about the 1931 earthquake and its role in influencing the architecture of the city. And before you return to your hostel for the night, take time to enjoy the stunning views at the waterfront.

Napier Travel Tips & Suggestions

Napier is a really cute place to stay for a few days! There is loads to do including the spa (which is so cheap), the aquarium and mini-golf! There also seems to be a lot of dance classes happening - salsa was really fun. Pubs are good, but not really a clubby place! Had a really good time here! — Lucy
