Holbox Island Hostels

Holbox Island is a super tranquil piece of paradise located on the northern coast of Mexico. The water is crystal clear, the sand is white, and the mood is incredibly relaxed. The island is less developed with tourism than a lot of the other popular Mexican beaches and if you want to get out of the really touristy beach environment, this is the place for you.

You can catch the ferry to Holbox Island from the small town of Chiquila. There are buses that leave from Cancun and Merida daily that will take you to Chiquila. Once on the island, you will find all of the things that you need there, including fresh fruit and vegetables, other food items from the local convenience store and fresh fish and seafood which can be purchased daily in the mornings from where the ferry comes in.

The major attraction of Holbox Island is the whale shark diving. This is seasonal, so if you have your heart set on it, make sure you check the season times before going. They also do a lot of kayak tours, fishing trips, kite surfing, and snorkeling on the island. You can also hire bicycles or golf buggies to explore the island completely and get lost in this little area of paradise.

Hostels on Holbox Island are located within walking distance to the ferry terminal. Most of them are located quite close to the beach on the north side of the island, which is the better side of the island for swimming and all other water activities.
