"Hostalito Guanajuato is wonderfully located, right in the center, walking distance from everything, and the half-hour cab ride from the airport to the hostel entails a quick tour of colorful, bustling Guanajuato -- a magnificent old colonial silver city full of pedestrian walkways, art, university students, language schools, and more color than anybody's eyes can hold. We think that although...

"Functional but avoidable - The hostel I stayed this week was called "Refugio de Angeles," and it was on Cantarranas -- I'm positive because I took a photo of their sign as I walked out the door. However, the photos on this site do not look like the grimy, dim-lit, place I stayed in, nor do the listed amenities add up. Now, this hostel is actually just the second floor of a huge...

"Nice dorm rooms, festive rooftop terrace, and excellent location in Guanajuato. Unfortunately, the bathrooms were not cleaned the six days I was there, which prompted me to find another hostel for my last days." … "Eh. - Staff was very friendly and the pink rooftop terrace was quite nice. The location was very convenient -- one-minute walk from the main "Jardin," though the road noise got...

I would definitely go back." … "It's very clean and central and you feel very safe. If you are interested, the foreigner can tell you a lot about the Mexican political situation. Guanajuato Travel Tips & Suggestions

It's easy to get addicted to a place where truly beautiful colonial architecture contrasts with the exhuberance of the of the everpresent University students and the charro musicians who entertain at all times in the beautiful plazas. Founded upon a mining area, Guanajuato sits on a web of tunnels, which nowadays provide unique traffic arteries. Both the young and not-so young will have a delightful time! Do not miss the world-famous Festival Cervantino, held every year in October.

I spent a summer in Guanajuato two years ago. It's a charming town, take the tram up to see Pipila and enjoy the multi-colored houses from high up. See the creepy mummies and markets, and just relax. While it's not as lively as Mexico City, Guanajuato is still a good place to spend a few days.
