The bad news -- no English is spoken, except for a few irrelevant... "The location of this hostel cannot be beat. It is blocks away from Kizomizu temple, Pontocho street, the river, and Gion. The staff is very friendly. I liked the free internet and the bicycle rentals (500 yen/day!). Kyoto is great for biking, so this made a big difference for me. Shower is pretty clean and comes with lots of free amenities. The garage serves as the common room/bathroom/kitchen. Pretty cramped, can only fit... "I find that this hostel is very excellent and the service and cleaniness is wonderful. You can't imagine that you can find such a wonderful and cheap place to stay in Japan, which is an expensive country. But, some of the staff members are not very friendly. In the evenings, you may have the chance to spot Maiko walking on the street. Gion district is the best place to feel the traditional taste of Kyoto.
