"This is the Bergamo HI hostel. You have to take two buses to get to the hostel from the train station and it's located in a residential area outside of the center of the city. But even with the bus transfer it's possible to get there in about 25 minutes from the train station. The hostel itself is a pretty much a basic HI hostel, but it's a clean and recently renovated one. There is a large indoor common room with tables and chairs and a TV. Bergamo Travel Tips & Suggestions

I lived in Bergamo for one full year. It has a lot to offer. The bars are not just for the locals, there is a great scene there. There is one club in Bergamo, called Zero. There are also two other clubs very close to the city, not more than five or ten minutes away, an easy cab ride. There is also cheap food available. All the really expensive food is in Citta Alta. One of the less expensive restaurants (and also my favorite one) is called Nasti -- it is located in Citta Bassa. Citta Alta is beautiful, it is also where all of the nightlife is if you're not into clubbing. In Citta Alta there are two or three fancy clothing stores, but if you're looking for good shopping, Citta Bassa is the place to be. Bergamo definitely has a completely different culture than the rest of Italy. One day is not enough to take it in. This is the city that I call my second home. It is truly a great place with great people.

Bergamo is beautiful, but to be seen as a side excursion from Milan. It was nice to escape from the traffic of Milan and hideaway in Bergamo. I had a good Italian friend of mine introduce me to Bergamo. It is a small village, but it is nevertheless beautiful and off the beaten track. Ciao!

Bergamo does not need an overnight stay!!! Once you've visit the beautiful Venetian masterpiece that is the Citta Vecchia, the remaining part of town is not worth paying attention to. The part below Citta Vecchia is barely 100 years old. It consists of residential and office buildings and a couple of churches but hasn't got any ancient appeal, mostly one finds some pretty portici and luxury goods shops. There are lots of restaurants there, but they aren't affordable. The town only needs 6 hours and there isn't much else to do, don't spend a moment more; there's no clubs in town, pubs are not trendy and are purely for the locals; restaurants are sooooooo expensive! Discos in Bergamo don't exist either and most people are totally aloof, what's wrong with the Bergamaschi poor folks, who took away their smile, they maybe miss their Venetian rulers. Citta Vecchia though, nice, very, breathtaking views. When I was there there was a Jacovitti exibition at the Chiesa di Sant'Agostino in the Bergamo Citta Vecchia, some talented Italian cartoonist. And in the Citta Vecchia there are art galleries too. At the end of the day it turned out to be quite a cultural outing.
