South Kuta Beach refers to the area that extends north of the airport up to where Jalan Raya Kuta starts; some accommodations also refer to it being south of the airport to Jimbaran as well. It includes the area known as Badung also. Hostels in South Kuta Beach are thus scattered within this area and you will find different amenities close to different hostels in South Kuta Beach. Either way you look at it though, it is a very short distance from the airport to your accommodation.
It is a more upscale area, and as such, expect that things will be a little more expensive around this area. There are also a lot more Westernized restaurants, shops, and things like bakeries as well, so it isn't a huge culture shock for most people when they land in this region.
This area is known for its shopping malls and you will find a huge assortment of outlet shops for different surf brands. There is also a giant water park with water slides where you can spend the day, if this takes your fancy. There are quite a few popular beaches here, where you can chill out and rest on a day bed for a cheap price as negotiated with the sellers along the beach and if you feel up for it, this is a good region to go for a surf. The beaches are a little more quiet and less littered than those further north in the Kuta/Legian region.
