"Named after the owner, Hille, this private hostel is located in a house on the outskirts of the town center. It's about a 10-minute walk to the train station. The house is set back from the street and has a quieter vibe to it. It seems popular with older and long-term guests. There isn't a common room, but there is a big kitchen which you have full access to. There are showers/bathrooms in the dorms and there is no curfew (you get a key). It has a very homey feel, and Hille is an...
"This hostel is extremely fun and exciting! I drank very good wine there, and it was well kept and quiet. Come to Jugendgastehaus Trier for a good time!" … "I stayed at this hotel twice many years ago. It was quiet, very well kept (some of the best rooms I had in all my trips) and right on the edge of the river." … This modernized youth hostel has 236 beds in single, twin and 4 bedded rooms as well as dorms and rooms with wheelchair access, all with en suite shower/WC. Trier Travel Tips & Suggestions

I've been to Trier and i think it's a beautiful town! It has everything on the right proportions!! Population, green, water, cafes, clubs ... It is relaxing, plus it is located in the center of Europe, so i wouldn't mind living there permanently as I could practically visit half the European capitals whenever I wanted!!

I lived in Hermeskeil when I was stationed at both Spangdahlem and Sembach Air Bases in the late 70s and early 80s and loved going to Trier. Use to be a nice bar at the top of the Holiday Inn right on the Mosel. The open air market had the best produce, the people were wonderful and I really miss being there. I am now in Key West, Florida so the weather is far different than snow and cold. And it is a short trip to the American Cemetary in Luxembourg which is a beautiful place. Enjoy. I did. Misty

Trier is so beautiful and soothing. I just didn't want to leave!

I'm just back from Trier. It is told that Trier is the home town of Karl Marx, but the city has not too much propaganda about that, just a small museum. That makes the tourists a bit disappointed. After all, he was German philosopher, economist, and revolutionary.

It does have Jesus' robe, or actually Tunica. I think the city is beautiful, but yes it is relaxing. There is a great Russian restaurant in around the fountain under a hotel.

Trier has a lot of old roman ruins, and there is a big church near the porta negro (black gates). There are some good clubs there too. Trust me I know this, I am a US soldier in based around Trier. If you ever go there stop by a club called the "Riverside". Something to add about the church -- it supposedly has Jesus's robe.

Although I agree that other than the Roman ruins there isn't much to do, and certainly not to have a blast :). But, it is a small town with beautiful nature around the river, good for nice long walks if you want to rest from the crowds and worries of single-travellers. It is also a good stop to make side trips to Cochem, or as a bridge to go to either Luxembourg (very attractive city) or Strasbourg. But if it is far off your route, then you can better use your time to visit other places.

This is an interesting town as it's filled with Roman ruins, but if it's far out of your way, don't bother. Other than the ruins, there's not much to this town other than a lot of young school groups. It would make a good stop into or from France though.
