"A castle hostel high on a cliff overlooking the Rhine river valley. A beautiful place with beautiful views. There is a central courtyard and a bar downstairs that also serves breakfast. The rooms all look new or newly renovated with comfortable bunks and clean bathrooms. The staff are nice enough and don't mind if you want to eat or drink in the courtyard. Make a reservation as the hostel can fill up with school groups (it's an HI hostel). Young kids can be noisy, although most rooms...

Bacharach Travel Tips & Suggestions

I briefly stopped in Bacharach in 1993 and returned in 2000 -- a wonderful town indeed. Also, if working your way up the Mosel, go to Trier and explore the Roman-era buildings. Too bad the dollar is tanking in late 2007, or I'd return again!

Bacharach was the most enchanted part of my already blessed journey through Germany in 2004.The castle, the setting, and yes, the people I met -- I will never forget them, even though I knew them for only a breath of life.

I first visited Bacharach in 1959 when I was eighteen years old and a member of Central Europe 1 of American Youth Hostels. Forty years later I was on a walking pilgrimage along the Rhein with my daughter.

We took a day trip to Bacharach in January of 2006. We walked through the little town where we had a wonderful lunch, and walked up to the castle which is also a hostel. We were quite surprised with the beauty of this little town and would love to one day return.

I served in the US Army at a post near this little town from 1971 to 1972 and was so facinated with it that I kept an apartment there during this time. Real beautiful people and a lot of history.

I visited Bacharach several times during my US Army days - 1969-71 and am still intrigued by this beautiful little town. I would love to go back there.

I visited Bacharach in July 2004 and was completely enchanted! A true fairytale town full of living history. The St. Werner Kapelle ruins took my breath away. My 10 year old son wants to live there when he grows up.

This village tucked away in the Middle Rhine River valley is simply a story-book experience. The town sits within walls dating back to the Roman era. The walls are connected by beautiful watch towers which you drive through to enter the village. The village itself is very charming and the people very nice. I fell so much in love with this town that I actually lived and worked here for 8 years, and also married a woman from the adjoining village of Steeg. I will always have fond memories of this village.

Be sure to watch a sunrise from the castle on the hill overlooking Bacharach and the Rhine River. It is the best view of the scenic little town. Take time to sit on the benches in the park by the river and watch the boats going by. You will see many different nationalities. Walk on the walkway that is part of the old town walls that surrounded Bacharach to protect the town from enemies in the old days. Take a walk up the hill to Steeg. See the ruins of the St. Werner Kapelle. Take a trip on a pas senger boat on the river.

Awesome, with good food and great scenery.

Don't come here for the nightlife, come here for the scenery. This is a beautiful town filled with old buildings on the shore of the Rhine. The Loreli cliffs aren't far and you can do a little swimming. This place is probably best for people travelling with some cash as there are many small shops and restaurants. There are always Doner Kebaps if you're poor though. If you're good with a camera, you'll love this place.
