    "Meininger City Hostel Cologne is both a hotel and hostel, and it has the best of both worlds. It's very modern with bright, bold colors everywhere. Key cards provide entrance to the main door and the rooms, so it definitely feels safe. This is not the kind of hostel that feels like you're staying in someone's apartment, but it's not impersonal either. It has a very nice dining room for the... "The Station Hostel is an ok hostel in a good location. It's located about a five minute walk from the train station in the center of Cologne. There are a couple of grocery stores located just down the street, and the Dom (Cologne cathedral) and surrounding shopping areas are within walking distance.

It is operated by the owner and there are a limited amount of beds, so it's the type of hostel where everyone gets to know each other the first day.
The Location
404 Hostel is easily accessed by train with simple directions to follow -- it is four stations from the main station with one change. The owner of the hostel is very obliging...  "Brill, brill, brill, brill, brill, brill!" … "I went here last December as part of school trip for the weekend, and I loved it! The showers are modern, the bedrooms are comfortable and the food is lovely. Internet access is available for a few euros and the staff are always helpful, even if your German is minimal. It's a good location, too, especially for Christmas markets and ice cream...
