Bielefeld is a medium-sized city on the northern tip of Northrhine-Westfalia mostly dominated by industry. It is divided into ten suburbs, with Bielefeld-Mitte being the most central one which also includes the old city center.

If you are looking for a hostel in Bielefeld, Mitte is an excellent area to stay in. If you prefer a more quiet Bielefeld hostel location, Heepen might also be a good choice.

Public transport in Bielefeld is comprehensive and you can get anywhere even if you stay in a more remote place, just do not expect buses and trains to be pretty since it is a old system. Bielefeld does not have an airport but can be reached by train with Deutsche Bahn. Even though you might not know at first sight why you should go to Bielefeld, it has very pretty spots if you take the time to explore it. The old city center boasts with impressive architecture and good shopping, you can visit the icon of the city, Sparrenburg castle, and there are also lots of museums and galleries offering all ranges of modern art. And nightlife in Bielefeld is surprisingly diversified with a relaxed crowd. So you might get to like Bielefeld. After all, it is part of the region of Ostwestfalen-Lippe, whose inhabitants have a reputation of taking some time to warm up, but once you have gotten past this, they are incredibly lovely.
