"Hostel Hannover is a decent hostel. It is too far to walk from from the hauptbahnhof/main station but is easy to find from the Goetheplatz tram stop. There is a dearth of decent cheap accommodation in Hannover –- and apart from the YHA hostel which is often full -– there are no other budget places to stay. The hostel seems more like the owner's has put a few beds into one of the rooms of his house and has hostellers stay there. The owner speaks little English but is quite laid back and...
"This is a superb hostel. It's very nice and the location is great. You have to take a tram to get there from the train station(about 10 minutes), you will not be disappointed." … "Very good. I stayed there on a school trip recently." … The hostel is located close to the city centre near the sports park at the Niedersachsenstadion. … A Hostelling International (HI) Hostel … Ferd.-Wilh.-Fricke-Weg 1

Ok, the city isn't that beautiful. But at least it's quite relaxed as its people are lazy bums. It is perfect for lingering around in parks, drinking cheap beer, and economizing on personal hygiene!

It's a bit wild but has cool tattoo shops.

Try walking around List and Oststadt and in the parks close to the University, there are some very beautiful areas. As well, the big Eilenriede park is fantastic, like a dense forest in the middle of the city. For going out at night, try around the Raschplatz area where you will find bars and clubs, or ask around for clubs in the central Steintor area (which is the red light district as well, so beware of where you enter). It is not that dreary, but sometimes the inhabitants seem to be very boring. For going out, check the University parties of the Faculty of Medicine which are usually great and happen during the week (on Thursdays).

It seems like a lovely city but a slightly dreary one. At least that was my experience of it. It was all very new and looked like it could be fun. But for me, it really didn't have much apart from cycle routes which I liked.

There is not much to do in Hannover. The lake dug by Nazis is impressive, and there is ok shopping. Aside from that... who knows.

Hannover is awesome. I do not know how you can say dreary in the winter. There are many things to do and see...and if all else fails there are some fun pubs!

I can't say much for the town of Hannover, it's a bit dreary especially in the winter.
