Mitte is the geographical heart of the city and includes the old city center with most major attractions. Mitte is surrounded by the four other boroughs Nord, Ost, West, and Bessungen. Even farther away are Arheilgen, Kranichstein, Eberstadt and Wixhausen. If you are on a budget, it might be better to look for a Darmstadt hostel in one of the more outlying boroughs since Mitte is the most expensive.

The closest airport is Frankfurt am Main International Airport which can easily be accessed by train. Darmstadt is also a major hub for long-distance trains (ICE); you can pretty much go anywhere in Europe from here. Getting around the city from your Darmstadt hostel is easy since there is a comprehensive public transport system in place.
