Munich Travel Tips & Suggestions

I visited this city in July. It's a great city, too beautiful -- lovely people. I like it.

A note about the beer gardens in the Englischer Garten. You'd think they'd be tourist friendly, but they're not, so go elsewhere for your Munich beer experience. Way overpriced, too. If you do go despite the warning, at least be careful when you buy your beer to pick up a token. They won't tell you about it, and they won't hand it to you. And if you ask about it, they won't speak English. But without it, when you return your glass for your deposit back later, you won't get it. The whole thing seems to be designed to con tourists out of a few bucks, in my opinion. Munich's great, mind you -- it's just one weak spot in an otherwise great city to visit.

Munich is great. Lots of history and big mugs of beers. Also, check out Neuswanstein where the Cinderella castle is as well as Dachau, a concentration camp.
Comment by Vanessa
Munich is an amazing city. Don't miss the Englisher Garten. It will take you 3 hours to walk across this park, but it is a great escape from the city. There are lakes and streams and very green grass. Beautiful.
Comment by Janine
The castles are great! For $15 you can get into Neushwanstein as well as Hohenswangu. Also, make the time to go out to Dachua. It is a really moving experience. Organise a tour with Mike's Bikes. They take you out there on the train and bus and give you a guided tour.
Comment by Gabrielle
If you want to get a great tour of Ludwig's Castles, check out the tours offered by the English speaking Euraide office at the train station. They have a website too. (They only run tours Wednesdays in the summer, but they have good recommendations if you are there at other times.)
Comment by Josh
If you're rushed here, try Mike's bike tour as a way to have fun and see a lot of the sights in town. Otherwise, definitely go to the English Garden (you can swim or surf in the river). Skip the glockenspiel and nude meadow (but if you don't, say high to Tripod). The beergardens are fun but overpriced, try a local beergarden for much cheaper prices and a more relaxed time.
