"Chalet Ski Station is located right across the street from the Brevent ski lift. It is about a five-minute walk to the town centre and ten-minute walk back to the hostel. The walk back to the hostel from the city centre is pretty steep but there is a bus available until around 6:30. It is just over an hour from Geneva and the least expensive transfer service is alpybus. The atmosphere of the hostel could be best compared to going back to camp. You walk into the social area which is...

Chamonix Travel Tips & Suggestions

If you are a good skier and love offpiste, then Chamonix and Verbier are one of the best places in Europe. No argument about it.

Chamonix is off piste-skiing. If you want the piste go elsewhere. There aren't really any pistes. It's about ski touring with easy access, it's about mountaineering type stuff. And don't come if you're not fit on crevasse and avalanche rescue, the weather, or want to learn that. Unless you want to skip the skiing and get into the nightlife -- fine!

If it is on-piste boarding/skiing you are after, Chamonix may not be the place for you. I am halfway through a season here and am just beginning to discover that it is all about the off-piste. That is the big deal with Chamonix.

Went there in January 05 and had a good time. It was a little thin on the snow, but that would be expected at this time of the year. We had a good first day and second day because there were freshies. It has steep and rugged terrain and I am looking forward to going next year, but probably in feb or march. Excellent new years with people in the square, fire, fireworks, and drunks pushing each other in shopping carts. Not a police officer in site, they would have had the cops in force if this was in America.

After two seasons of Chamonix I can never imagine being bored by its varied and steep terrain. After a week in Tignes I felt like I had covered almost every inch of the mountain even though it is obviously more interconnected.

It is spread out but that's because it's not a purpose built resort, it's an old town with an atmosphere you wouldn't find in any other. Oh, and the off piste is amazing...

I have no idea what this person is talking about. Maybe they were in a different resort. Chamonix is the only place to go, when it comes steep extreem of peist boarding, it also hosts a huge range of awesome slopes for all abilities. With its rad of piest and laid back atmosphere it's the only place to be...

Everything in Chamonix, is truely remote from any skiing. I wouldn't go back, mostly because Chamonix as a ski area is over-rated. It's lots of small ski areas spread out. Lifts are slow, crowded, and you have to take a lift up above the tree line before you can take another lift to begin skiing. Go to Tignes instead...
