Nice Hostels

This is a complete list of all known hostels in Nice. If you know of a Nice hostel that isn't listed here, please use the "Add a New Hostel" link at the bottom of the page.
"Hotel & Hostel Pastoral is really more of a hotel than a hostel. The staff/owners are wonderful -- very pleasant and extremely helpful (a nice change from the usual transient staff at most youth hostels). The hotel is easy to find, located a short walk from the train station. It's not the nicest area of town, but a convenient location for arrival to and departure from Nice. It is right...
"Located just outside of the downtown core of Nice, Villa Saint Exupery -- a former monastery -- overlooks the town and the Mediterranean Sea. The building is gorgeous and very well kept -- very modern. The staff are helpful and provide maps of the city and surrounding area along with bus schedules and tips on how to get everywhere from Monaco to Cannes. The hostel advertises station pick-up...
"This place is not so obvious from the outside and once you get buzzed into the building you have to go upstairs and be buzzed into the door—make sure you go to the place marked "Chez Patrick" because there is another hostel upstairs. This is a small hostel within reasonable walking distance from the train station (10-15 minutes with heavy packs). The rooms have 5 bunks and are very...
"The Hotel des Alizes is ideally located -- about five minutes from the train station and ten minutes from the beach and in an area with a lot of good shopping and restaurants. It is on the second floor of a business/apartment complex and is pretty small, with only about eight rooms. There is elevator access to the hostel, but it is barely big enough to fit a person, let alone a person with...
"Hostel Baccarat is a mixed bag, as many hostels are. Proximity to the train station, daily cleaning of the rooms, and an ever-helpful staff add to the pleasing atmosphere they hope to provide. But availability of bathrooms, location in the dodgy part of Nice, and a lax room security may turn away savvy backpackers. The Location Hotel Baccarat is easy to locate due to its proximity to...
"This place is more like a hotel then a hostel. It was very nice and clean. It has a great location (right by the beach in the heart of Nice) and it's very affordable. If you're on a budget and in Nice I would recommend you stay at Hotel Paradis." … "AMAZING. The only bad thing I can say about this hotel is that it didn't have a kitchen (which I didn't even notice until now) and the stairs...
"Fantasically situated, clean and right in the center of everything. One of the best hostels I have ever stayed at." … "Excellent hostel. The staff were really friendy and it was so nice to stay in a CLEAN, private and quiet place." … "It was a pleasure to stay here. Very good location and clean. Well worth the money as you have your own kitchenette. My only complaints are the noise...
"Antares is located next to the railway station. The beach is a ten-minute walk away. The hostel staff are friendly. Our room was not that big, but it was safe and clean. All together, a really, really good hostel." … "The location of this hostel is really good, near the station and the town centre. First we were shown to a room with only one spare bed for two of us, but they sorted this...
The hostel welcomes you with a dormitory for 10-12 people or a separate private room for two people sharing. There are showers, a kitchen with cooking facilities and a large flat screen TV, free lockers and WiFi access as well as tea, coffee and chocolate included in the price. The hostel is just off Place Rossetti, one of the main squares in the old town where you can sit and have a leisurely...
The pedestrian zone is easily reached on foot, so you don't need to take the bus! But you can take the new tramway if you want. Ideal for going out at night and you have a supermarket downstairs over the street. Our staff are here to help you during your stay, providing you with any information you need. Reception’s opening time: 8 am to 11 pm Once you are here there is no curfew so...
"Fantastic! - When I stayed at this hostel, I had a fantastic time. It's in a great safe location near to everything -- near the train station, tramway, shops, and just ten minutes to the beach. And also perfect for going out at night as it's only a short walk to the old town where all the action is. It's a great place to make friends as they have a terrace space outside the charming historic...
(Mount Boron Park)
"A hostel located high up on a mountain with a view of Nice. The location is about 15 minutes from downtown by bus and this particular bus line runs infrequently and stops running entirely after about 9:00 PM (21:00). But there is also a night bus that will get you part of the way there. There is a common area with tables. Arrive very early in the morning to get a bed in the high season...
"Auberge de Jeunesse - Les Camelias is clean, has friendly service, and has many rooms available. Breakfast is included in each night's fee, which consists of cereal, bread, milk, juice, and a variety of coffees. These French guys wouldn't short-change you on coffee. Bedrooms are equipped with shower and sinks, but toilets are located in the hallway and shared by everyone; however, they are...
"There have been serious issues with poor treatment and harrassment of non-French guests. As an example, when our reviewers stayed at this hostel the manager of the hostel demanded a bribe before he would return our passports. While he held the passports he lectured us about how we needed to be "taught a lesson" and "eat humble pie" for thinking we were better than the French because we came...
"The first day was really terrible. It was a shock to see all the insects, the cacarachas, the two old ladies, the pink lady and her old sister. After the first shock, we meet there so beautiful, interesting people, and we had a great time, which we never forget." … "The hostel wasn't particularly clean, and there was sometimes trouble getting hot water for showering. But the two french...

Nice is not a culture city. It's got sea and beach -- so expensive too. The population is unfriendly too. It's better to stay in any other cities around!

I loved it -- real nice place. The people did not really know much English, but nonetheless it was welcoming, safe, and had very nice balconies to look upon the streets. There was a bit of a walk to the beach, but hey we all need a little exercise every now and then and it helped to see the area. Nice rules!

It's nice visiting Nice. I have seen lots of things that everybody wants to see.

Nice is nice for people who are more interested in going to the (rocky) beach and bars than cultural things. If you are in a hurry, don´t get stuck here as you can see the whole city in one day. One day in Monaco and Cannes is a must. Certain areas are dangerous at night. Another hostel guest got robbed at night during my stay. So don't go out at night by yourself! The city is very expensive and during the summer 2006 the whole main street was under construction, so it wasn´t that pretty. Don´t miss the old town.

Just an amazing city!

It's a magical place so full of beautiful old colourful buildings and quaint streets. The beach sucked but being from Australia we tend to be spoiled. We loved the sights sounds and smells of Nice and the people were lovely. Our biggest regret was we couldn't spend more time there.

Postcard perfect sceneries. The train is a marvelous mode of travel. Although my French is very limited, there were kind souls who helped along the way. The best memories include watching the yachts bobbing in the aqua meditranean sea from the top of the old castle in Nice, the garden in Monaco, the Picasso museum in Antibe, and the seaside in Cannes. I also treasure the train ride back from Monaco at night, along the coast, watching the moonlight rippling on the sea. We did all the daytrips spontaneously and every one of them turned out to be beautiful. The only surprise was the pebbly beach in Nice and the chilly water. It was interesting but a bit of a let down as in tropical coastal Malaysia, our beaches are sandy and the water warm. But one should go to Nice not for the beaches but for the ambience, the French, the food, and the charming old towns and cobblestoned streets. I am planning to return to Nice in January 2006 to recapture some of the magic with new friends!

After spending two nights in Nice, I don't know why anyone would want to spend their money and energy on such a dirty, noisy, busy, overpriced city, with a rocky beach and nothing to see or do. We spent our time in Monaco instead. Before you make Nice a stop on your trip, ask yourself why you are going. If you want to lounge around on the beach, try one of the quieter, neighboring cities with sandy beaches.

Nice is amazingly beautiful and full of things to do. You can wander the streets in search or the Russian Cathedral and encounter many beautiful parks and buildings on the way. You can also spend a lot of time in Villa Nice (Old Nice)..its amazing...every morning and evening during the summer there is a flower market where the farmers from the surrounding area come in and sell fruit, plants, flowers, candy, fish, spices, and many other unique items. The streets are lined with beautiful little shops and outdoor cafes and walking along the beach is great. It is very rocky but the views are amazing. Be sure to climb up the ruins of an old castle for some of the most beautiful pictures youll ever take. It is also extremely easy to get to Canne, Villefranche, Monaco and Menton. We went to different places each day and would return to Nice each evening to eat outside under heat lamps in the cafes. Canne has sandy beaches if that is what you are looking for, Menton is known for having the warmest beaches though they are rocky, Villefranche is not touristy at all but a great morning could be spent walking through the streets of this little french town, and Monaco has a lot of great attractions including the aquarium, views of the sea and all the yachts and a gorgeous garden you could spend hours wandering through. Nice is my favorite place in the world. The only negative is that public transportation can be a problem if you don't speak any French. (I didn't but it was still okay, just difficult.)

Nice is beautiful. Although rocky, the beach is spectacular. You MUST go to the Ice Cream place in the center of Vielle Nice, it has like 100 flavours (try one scoop of rhubarb, and one scoop of strawberry). Do not even bother trying to get ice cream from anywhere else because it would never be able to match this place. Try having Moulles et Frites (mussels and fries) from Lou Pilha Leva at 13 rue du Collet in Vielle Nice!

Nice is a very frantic city, but beautiful. The beaches aren't the best, I would suggest going to Monaco for Villefranche for that (both are easy to get to, the bus goes straight from one end of the Cote d'Azur to the other, so you can't really miss it). Old Nice is very reminscent of Venice, you MUST find the ice cream/gelato place, it's easy to recognize once you find your way through the maze of Old Nice. Ask to try the olive, it's an experience.

Nice... I love it. It's crowded and full of Americans (no offence) but if you speak French and meet locals it adds to the experience so much. The weather is beautiful, the rocky beach can be surprisingly comfortable if you work at it, and the sunset is absolutely beautiful. Also I had the best pizza and gelato there...who knew? Oh and GO TO THE PUBLIC BEACH IN CANNES! You will not regret it plus the train ride is very scenic.

Nice is cool, the beach is crap, but the city awesome. Watch out for crackheads stealing your bags at night. Spend a day here and then hit St. Tropez and look for P Diddy.

Nice is a lovely city! A walk on the promenade by the beach at night is a must, as all sorts of street entertainers populate this place at night! Day trips I would recommend are to Monaco, Cannes, Antibes, and St. Tropez.

Nice is fabulous! You must go here if you are in France. It is the most beautiful place to visit and be sure to do a trip to Monaco.

You will learn that streets are not marked as obviously in Europe as they are in the states—look up on the corners of the buildings for placards. Train is the likely way you will arrive in Nice if you are a backpacker—just listen up for strikes because the trains and then the trains and the buses went on strike the week I was there which had some people stranded when they were over due to get out of France—but I thought the protesting in the streets was cool—there was singing and music parade-style in the mornings and I sure wanted them to win! And when you are there remember to give give yourself time for daytrips to Cannes and Monaco—it’s just an air conditioned bus ride away (as long as they are not on strike that is!).

Get a reservation somewhere far in advance if you can, especially in the summer. Nice always has a crowd of people who couldn't get beds sleeping outside the train station (it closes at night), and the mosquitos don't make it any easier.
