Orléans Hostels

Orleans is a regional capital in the center region of France, at the entrance of the world famous Unesco heritage Loire Valley and its many castles.

Orleans is a touristy city though it has limited offering for the history buffs. The city's main claim to fame of the city is that it is the place where Jeanne D’Arc was burnt, and they have rebuilt an historical house where she is supposed to have stayed prior to her execution. There is also a famous festival in winter celebrating the medieval roots of the city and re-enacting the sad story of the young virgin warrior.

While staying in an Orleans hostel, keep in mind that the city is a great hub for visiting other features of the region, especially by combining train and bike. You can easily take a day trip to some of the most famous castles of the Loire Valley such as Chambord and get back to your hostel in Orleans in a day.

Other day trips from your Orleans hostel might include biking or hiking in Sologne, which is famous in France for its deep forests and great food. You can even ask some locals, or the staff at your hostel in Orleans for hints on where to find mushrooms in season, and if they like you they might help you out, but if they don't they may send you in the opposite direction!

Orleans is also only about an hour away from Paris by train, so if you decide to stay in an Orleans hostel for very long, you could go to the capital as a day trip.
