Turku Hostels

Turku is the oldest city in Finland and was the capitol until 1812, when they moved the capitol to Helsinki. The city is easily reachable by bus, plane, train, or ferry. Turku is home for about 175,000 people. Although not as significantly influential as it used to be, Turku is a still a regional capitol and an important location for culture and business.

The best time to visit Turku hostels is during the summer when it is generally considered the most beautiful city in Finland. You can spend time outdoors enjoying the sights on a warm summer day. We recommend taking a walk beside the Aurajoki (Aura River), which is especially beautiful in the evenings too, due to its unique lighting. Aurajoki and its surroundings are called "The living room of the people of Turku", and the saying fits well.

There are a number of festivals which take place in Turku; a majority of them are during the summer. Down By The Laituri (DBTL, July-August) is a city festival which attracts most of the big Finnish names and a few foreign ones too. Ruisrock is in July and often has a very strong lineup, ranging from famous international bands and performers to big local names. You will need to book your Turku hostel in advance if possible.

If you like culture, you might want to go to one of the renowned and well-known theatres in Turku. The most famous of these is the Turun Kaupunginteatteri (Turku City Theatre). It has three stages which range from childrens' theatre to music theatre for the bigger crowds.

Although there are many other options ranging upward in price, Turku hostels are, of course, the most affordable source of lodging. This being said, Finland is still a pretty expensive place even for those traveling on a budget, so expect to pay 20€ and upwards for a dorm bed in Turku hostels.
