Oxford Hostels

Oxford is a very active student and market town in England. It is well known worldwide for its university. If you are into old architecture, don't miss this place with its countless churches, university halls and free museums. The contents of the museums are of high interest, with material collected by researchers, artists, and faculty for hundred of years.

Oxford is also the birthplace of many famous books, including Alice in Wonderland, and you can try to recognize famous landmarks which inspired the many Oxford-based authors over the centuries. Not all places are open to the public, so it is advised to befriend a student who will be able to open the heavy wooden doors for you, maybe in exchange of a (or several) pints of lager.

Students, even in Oxford, are notoriously poor, and like their beer, so to enjoy Oxford by night just push the door of one of many pubs, and follow the crowds to the club of the moment. Thursday evenings are the best for exploring the vivid night life. If you are into sports, we recommend trying rowing on one of the lakes or on the Thames.

There are hostels in Oxford which are centrally located, only a few hundred yards from the train station, and a mere bus hop to the historical centre of the city. Depending on the time of year, Oxford hostels might be full of students who haven’t found a more permanent place to stay, so it is recommended to reserve your bed in advance to avoid having to walk around town with your backpack all night or ending up sleeping in a park.
