"Shangrila Hostel is a brand new hostel (since May 2010) in Cahuita and a great addition to the Cahuita accommodation scene. The owner is a friendly Italian guy and there are dorms and private rooms available; kitchen and internet access; free tea, coffee, and drinking water; and it is right next to the bus stop. "The Hotel Jaguar in Costa Rica is far from new, and if they set the standard in Cahuita, Cahuita is in trouble. (Cahuita is actually a nice place). Contrary to some "reviews" the only food now served at the Jaguar is a very mediocre breakfast. The staff is overworked and somewhat on the surly side. The rooms are big, but depressingly sparse and not all that clean, and I'm not sure what "generous wooden trim" is meant to evoke.
