Isla de Pascua Hostels

Isla de Pascua or Easter Island, is one of the most mystical places in the world, with its giant Moais. It is also one of the most remote places in the world. The only realistic way to reach it is by air, either from Santiago, the Capital of Chile, or from Tahiti (sometimes as a stop over from Australia or New-Zealand). Plane tickets are not cheap and the cost of living on the island is similar to Europe or the USA, so carefully plan your budget before getting there.

Even if it seems small on a map the island is sizeable and you will quickly learn it is hilly if you decide to explore it on foot. You will also quickly get to know the pot holes if you rent a bike or a moped which are the cheapest ways to reach the giant statues and the only beach of the island.

All the attractions are distant from the main village of the island where the airport and all the Easter Island hostels are located. On the main street you will find many rental places and a few small supermarkets. Try to befriend other travelers in your Easter Island hostel so you can get together to save some money when renting a small 4wd to travel the island, and to visit the most remote and secret places.

Make sure you book your Easter Island hostel in advance, and ask to make sure that they can pick you up at the airport when you arrive.
