About Trinity East
Trinity East, a quaint and beautiful town on the Bonavista Peninsula of Newfoundland, is chock-full of history and interesting things to do. For those who love nature, there are tons of hikes to do in the area. The famous Skerwink Trail is at the top of the list for most people visiting the area. Browns Lookout hike is also great, with great views over the bay and of the cannons left here from the 1700s, when the town was fortified. Other popular walks in the area are the Fox Island Trail, Ryders Hill (also known as Gun Hill), or the British Harbour Trail.
The beaches here are beautiful and sandy, a great place to have a picnic. Along the coast you can visit the famous Trussle Waterfall. At different times throughout the year, people can see a variety of sea birds, whales, and other marine life. During the summer, companies offer chartered tours to see some of these things.
The town itself is filled with some old and very interesting architecture. The most popular building is the St. Paul's Anglican Church, which was rebuilt after a fire destroyed the original. Other historical places to visit are the Green Family Forge, Lester Garland Premises, and Hiscock House. A short drive out of town is the Cape Bonavista Lighthouse; you can do tours here and appreciate the really interesting display of Inukshuk all over the hills to guide the way. This is made even more significant, as they believe (although they are not completely sure) that this is the place where John Cabot (or Giovanni Caboto) landed in 1497 when he discovered Canada; there is a statue erected here in honour of his landing.
Hostels in Trinity East are located close to most of the amenities within the town. The staff at your Trinity East hostel will be able to help you discover this beautiful region of Newfoundland and get whatever supplies you need for your stay here.
