"This place is very comfortable, with a big clean kitchen, and a great pool. It's close to the city and the grocery store, and the staff provide bikes for riding around. They are very kind and warm people." … Bus: 800 metres to stop. Courtesy pick up on arrangement - during office hours only. Train: 1 km to station. Three trains per week. Plane: Cairns or Townsville airport. Bus transfers daily. … A Hostelling International (HI) Hostel … 175 Bruce Highway
"Stationed on the main street of Cardwell, the Cardwell Beach House offers backpackers a quiet stay while they work at the local prawn processor, or in the fields doing fruit picking. This small town is a bit off the beaten track for most travellers, with the exception of those serious about finding good work. The main grocery store is a 3 minute walk away and a backpacker bar is just across the road. Apart from these attractions, the town really does not have much to offer. The hostel...
"We had the best time at this hostel. The owner swears a bit, but he is a genuinely good guy. I had a job within a day, and there was always new work arriving. Thanks, Stuart and family, for a great stay!!!" … "Stewart (the owner) can be seen in many different ways. If you are a moaning person he will know and he will pick on you. That goes for lazy people, too. He is the hardest hostel worker in Australia, and I've been all over the country in many different hostels. That says a lot...

It's a great spot for a bit of fishing." … "This is not a Hostel, but a Caravan Park, and obviously, the owner has changed since the last rating. There were no Backpackers, but a lot of alcoholics who were living there because they couldn't get a flat and were noisy at night and I wouldn't trust anyone of them. The caravan I got...

Cardwell Travel Tips & Suggestions

Cardwell is the best place in Australia! My friend Leo and I stayed for almost two months working in a banana farm.

Cardwell is the most beautiful place I may have ever been on Earth! The main street has mountians on one side and a simple, untouched beach on the other! It is in "croc country", so no swimming, but the view is enough to fall in love with Cardwell!! There are cute cafes and wonderful locals. The local Catholic Church is still one of my favorites! Hitchinbrook Island is also another natural beauty in Cardwell. You can take a boat over on Sundays for half price. All in all, Cardwell is a must visit!
