Black Sheep Backpakers in Abergavenny After five extremely hard days on the Brecons I was ready for a warm comfortable bed. On my arrival at the hostel I was given a very warm welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. Having discovered this little gem I will be back!
Black Sheep Backpakers in Abergavenny We spent three days at The Black Sheep Backpackers in Abergevenny and can highly recommend this hostel. Whilst the backpackers is in a pub there is a separate section downstairs for those staying, which provides cooking facilities, peace and quiet, etc. Then when you want to enjoy the atmosphere of the pub it is as easy as going upstairs.
Black Sheep Backpakers in Abergavenny This place must have gone downhill. Stayed there in Aug. 2006 as part of a Haggis Tour. We had the hostel to ourselves, so there was no reason for the place to be filthy. Showers were disgusting with mould, empty shampoo packets on the floor, and broken doors. There was no hot water in the evening or the morning, and one shower had a split hose, meaning the water simply poured out of the hose. The light in our bathroom did not work, and the safety rail on the upper bunk was held on by a plastic Tesco's bag tied around it. The sheets on my bed had not been changed. Breakfast was ok as long as you didn't eat the meat or the eggs (microwaved eggs?). The pub downstairs had music playing loud until late, ending any chance of sleep. The was frequented by bikers and a scuffle broke out while we were there. Add this to the fact that there are no locks on any doors in the place, and you don't feel very secure.

Black Sheep Backpakers in Abergavenny Black Sheep Backpakers is a nice hostel and if you are arriving by train, it's handily located right across from the station. Look for the big white building that says "The Great Western Hotel." The hostel sign is less obvious. It's about a fifteen-minute walk from the center of the town, but the
