Gorham Great place to stay-- open in winter for skiing and hiking too!
White Mountains Hostel in Conway I stayed in this hostel for three nights to visit the white mountains forest. I really enjoyed my stay, the place was clean with a big and nice kitchen, cozy living room, and spacious dorms even with real air con! The staff is very friendly and the location is convenient close to the south gate of the park. And if you want to go for outlet shopping, Settlers outlet village is also not a far drive. If you want to visit the park this hostel is a good place to stay.
Cranmore Mountain Lodge in Conway The Cranmore Mountain Lodge bunkhouse is a climber's dorm and it's perfect for all of us climbers that would rather spend their money on gear. The breakfast you get for the money ($25 per night for the bed, use of the heated pool and hot tub) is a great deal! Also, Kevin and Jeanie, the owners are wonderful people. I recommend the Cranmore Mountain Lodge bunkhouse to all outdoor enthusiasts. Stay in the Inn if you don't like the conditions in the bunkhouse.
White Mountains Hostel in Conway This HI hostel at the edge of the White mountains has an excellent location. By car, the hostel is located on Washington St. less than a block off of Highway 16 in Conway. The location is the perfect base point from which begin exploration of the White Mountains and within a 30 minute drive from skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, sleighing, ice climbing, shopping, etc.
The hostel itself is small, but it's size gives it a friendly atmosphere allowing and encouraging travelers to intermingle with others during their stay.
Dorm rooms are separated by male and female. However, there are rooms available for couples and families as well as small apartments. There is also a kitchen and lounge area as well as laundry facilities. Although there aren't any meals included in the price of the room, refrigerator space and dishes are available for use. Recycling is practiced and encouraged. The bathrooms are clean and nice, rooms are average size, and parking is somewhat limited.
The
Lyons Hospitality in Twin Mountain I have stayed here a few times now and am very happy with my experiences. The owners are very nice and friendly and understand the needs of the hiking community. The bunk rooms provide the flexibility for a small group. The common room provides a place for us make our own meals (especially breakfast to get an early start!) and check the TV for the local weather. I would recommend it.
White Mountains Hostel in Conway I liked this hostel. It did seem like everyone was getting ready for hiking, biking, and mountain climbing. Luckily for me there are plenty of stores, restaurants, and a movie theater in walking distance.
Cranmore Mountain Lodge in Conway I adore this place. Pricey for a budget traveler to do an extended winter stay but well worth it for a night or two during a week long winter tip when the bivy gets old. The amenities are priceless, the rooms are no more spartan than any climber or outdoorsman shouldn't be able to stand, the food is appropriate, and the owners have been absolutely gracious.
Joe Dodge Lodge in Pinkham Notch Joe Dodge Lodge is a neat place to stay if you really want a change from the resorts. This is probably a 5-star hotel for any Appalachian hiker. We stayed in a bunk room that gave us what we needed for a place to sleep. Joe Dodge Lodge was by far VERY clean. I was impressed.
We ate breakfast and dinner in the mess hall. Breakfast and dinner were included in the price. Food was basic and vegetarian choices were available. We saw some true hikers with long beards probably thinking it was the best meal of their life! It was a neat experience to see!
The also had activities like how to pack a back pack, and had amazing bagged lunches which I highly recommend. A huge sandwich, clif bar, apple, cheese, carrots, the works! Very tasty meal when you are on the trails.
The sleeping conditions were bunk beds, but I believe that other types of rooms are available. The walls are thin and there were lots of kids. I recommend getting a room on the second floor so you don't hear those
White Mountains Hostel in Conway I stayed here in July '06, I liked this hostel, its clean and the kitchen is very big. The staff is friendly and it has an free WiFi access. I recommend staying there.
Hikers Paradise in Gorham May be old comments as I stayed here in 2001...very caring management.
Excellent shuttles, excellent breakfasts, bikes to borrow. A well run establishment. Geezer GA-ME
Hikers Paradise in Gorham Have stayed here several times and will again. I believe Bruce is long gone, but the Janickis still run the place as of Fall 2009. $20 including tax. This place is easy to find and may still offer shuttle service.
White Mountains Hostel in Conway Nice place - fairly clean and tidy. The lady at the front desk - may have been replaced - the one now is definitely American and speaks with a little lisp. She's extremely helpful and sweet. The place is full of Polish and Slovakian students for the next month or so. Very few other folks. Decent place - would recommend, good place for $21 a night.
White Mountains Hostel in Conway It's not too tidy, but there were many friendly guests. The people running it are much better than when I was last there a few years back. Much more personable. Not many guests seemed to be outdoors people. This time of year at Conway Hostel a lot of young Europeans are around sorting plans. And they all smoke!
