Göreme is a stunning place, and no matter in which direction you walk, you will encounter great sights. You can easily walk to the Open Air Museum and take local buses to the main underground cities. You will be pressured into booking a tour in Istanbul over and over, and then again when you arrive in Cappadoccia. It is not necessary at all to book a tour, unless you really are in a rush and want to be driven around or unless you want to see gimmicky things such as pottery-making demonstrations.
The new Göreme tour is very nice and good company.
Göreme Goreme is a nice place, very laid back. I enjoyed most the walk through the Red Rose VAlley. the valley itself is great and you'll end up at the "Flintstone café", run by a friendly guy. the vies from there are marvellous. there is a church nearby which to my opinion tops the ones in the open air museum in Goreme: have a look. Keep on walking to the sunset point for more great hiking, the sunset pint is rather so so but it is easy to go back to Goreme on the road from there.
Kose Pension in Göreme We spent a little over a week at Kose. Dawn and her team were warm and friendly people. We would gladly return for a month. Food was great. In the six months we were travelling this was one of the most relaxed places.
Kose Pension in Göreme An awesome place to stay! Dawn and Mehmet will make you feel at ease. With their wealth of local knowledge and great hospitality you can't go wrong.
Kose Pension in Göreme Great place to stay, they have a nice pool, good to meet other travellers and relax! The dog Spotty is really funny and follows you on your walks. They also have good food.
Star Cave in Göreme I honestly can't sing enough praise for the Star Cave hostel or Ramazan and his fathery (the managers). We had so much fun here that we extended our stay in Goreme from two nights to a week. The hostel is brand new, the dorm/bathrooms are modern and clean with western toilets. Ramazan offers amazing meals in house that are cheaper and tastier than your likely to find anywhere else in town and he personally called around and organised tours/activities we wanted for half the price we could get. (Trust me -- we checked!) He even came with us to the local bar and kept an eye on the girls in the group to make sure everyone got home safely! Try and find that kind of service in another hostel. The pictures shown here don't do the dorm rooms justice -- these may be the private rooms? The dorm room i stayed in was much nicer than this. Don't be put off by the kind of shabby looking entrance when you arrive -- give the place a chance and you won't regret your stay here.
Kose Pension in Göreme Great clean pool, friendly people with good food plus Spotty the wonder guide dog for those that are missing their pets on holiday and need a top up.
Peri Caves Hostel in Nevşehir the rooms are caves. all rooms are with bathroom. nice garden terrace.
Backpacker' Cave Interyouth Hostel in Göreme I stayed here in January, so granted it was cold outside. It was the worst hostel experience I had throughout all of my travels. My heater wouldn't stay on. There was no hot water. My room was so cold that I could see my breath! I had to take a cold shower in a freezing room. Even with two thick comforters on, I was too cold to sleep at all that night. I asked for help from the people who worked there, but they were all too drunk to be of help. If you are going to this town, stay somewhere else you have plenty of choices!
