Seville is truly delightful!!
What to say -- Tarifa is the best! Beaches are awesome. I'll come back for sure.
Granada is an interesting place. It is a mixture of old (the Alhambra, the original streets) with the new (modern shops, a very young crowd, as it is a university town). It is a lively place with plenty of street musicians, a spirit of flamenco in the air (though less than I was hoping for), and one of the best part--teahouses! The Arabic influences are my favorite part of Granada. Now I am going to tell you the single best part of Granada which most people will miss: the birds. In several places, you will see HUNDREDS of tiny, ovalish brown birds flying all over the place within a certain radius of their perching trees, but mostly just making a really loud racket. They can be found in several places and plazas, but in particular, on an unassuming side street in the courtyard of the "Banco de Espania," across the street from a scummy strip-joint. Here, the birds gather and talk with one another all day and all night long; I would often pass at 1 or 2 AM and they were easily…
Been going to Nerja for ten years, as many times each year as I can. It's a great pleace where people actually live and work. The resturants are great and the atmospher is wonderful. Lots of cheap, good places to eat and stay.
When you're in Seville, don't miss the Seville Mosque. It's worth it.
Alhambra is beautiful -- a must-see for anybody passing through Andalusia. Granada itself is also very nice.
Been going to Nerja since i was 3...now 17! Fab place for people of all ages!
Tarifa has a very cool vibe. But in August, it is packed with families and annoying people. You MUST book in advance to stay here. Nightlife is very cool, but if you're lucky enough to be in a windstorm there, you're screwed during the day.
I didn't like Malaga so much -- it doesn't make much of its situation on the ocean. So many buildings, almost the entire city centre, are neglected and in terrible need of repair. The nightlife is brilliant, though, as is the relaxed atmosphere at tapa time. Make sure to visit Ronda at least for one day -- it is stunning.
Seville is unlike any other city anywhere! It's very cheap to eat and stay here. The weather is great, the people so friendly and everything in Seville is close at hand wherever you need to go and we're going back again in 5 days... it's worth it!
Granada was magical. It made my whole 2 1/2 weeks trip to Spain worthwhile. I miss it so much. Try to hike up to Sacramonte. There was an old couch up there, cactuses, and a woman sitting on the couch who kept smiling and waving at us. You can see the whole city from up there, the old Arab quarter, and la Alhambra, with its flags blowing and the mountains looming in the background.
I visited Seville for the European Cup Final, Celtic v Porto, May 2003. Seville had a fantastic atmosphere, and a wonderful reception from local people.
