Johannesburg … One thing I'd recommend beyond a doubt is taking a 'walking safari'. Camping in tents and huts with no restrictions for the animals to stroll into camp. An experienced tracker leads the way following paw prints. Because of his knowledge of the animal's instincts, we didn't feel threatened at any time. It makes for good close up photography and videos.

Diamond Diggers Backpackers in Johannesburg … This hostel is a great place to stay. The staff are really friendly and the hot tub in the bar provides much entertainment!! Food is available, as are shuttles to nearby Eastgate Mall, the Apartheid Museum, and the airport/bus station, for a very small fee. Free pickup is also available from where you are arriving.
Rockey's of Fourways Backpackers in Johannesburg … I like this hostel a lot. It's a long way from the city, but it's friendly and safe, and they'll pick you up at the airport or wherever.
Sleek Backpackers in Johannesburg … I absolutely loved staying at Sleek during my stay in Johannesburg, South Africa. The owners were so helpful in every way and if I needed even the smallest thing like an extension cable, my wish was granted. The swimming pool was amazing and relaxing (full sunlit). I recommend this hostel as one of the top five i've stayed in all my travels, and that's through entire Europe, Australia and U.K.. Well done Sleek!

Sleek Backpackers in Johannesburg … This is one of the cleanest places we've stayed at. It has really nice dorms and good beds. The staff are awesome. They will help you with everything. The dogs will not go near you if you don't want them to. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Come and experience it!
Brown Sugar Backpackers in Johannesburg … I stayed at Brown Sugar for 3 nights and I absolutely looooooved it! I had booked a 16-bed dorm and I expected the worst, what I found was the best dorm ever. There were only 4-5 people sleeping in the dorm at a time, most beds were not even bunk beds, so the room was huge. The bathroom was huge as well and worth a couple of photos. The hostel is big with several areas to relax, including a pool area. A nice dinner is offered every night. There is a free airport pick-up or drop-off, which is worth a lot in Johannesburg. The area is pretty safe for Johannesburg.

Rockey's of Fourways Backpackers in Johannesburg … When I was on holiday from the UK about two and a half years ago, this place was recommended to me, as my mates were off somewhere and not getting back before my plane took off a few days later. I stayed here for three days, and have never felt more comfortable in a hostel in my life. Take it from me, someone who has lived in hostels in Israel, London, Bangkok, New York and all over the UK, this is one amazing little place! Africa Centre Airport Guest Lodge & Travel Centre in Johannesburg … This is the best hostel in Johannesburg. They will pick you up for free and they will be there for you. Rooms at Africa Centre are perfect. You also get a FREE buffet breakfast in the morning. The staff are very friendly. This is really a five-star hostel. You have to go there and check it out yourself to believe it.
