Wester Caputh Independent Hostel in Dunkeld … A great base for walking in the hills or exploring the local area. It's very clean but still has character, definitely not sterile. Well equipped kitchen. No TV but this encourages more conversation between the guests, particularly around the dining table. There's a piano and other instruments, and a few books. Easy car parking just outside.
Pitlochry Youth Hostel in Pitlochry … The reception staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms were very peaceful and the dining area has an awesome view over the mountains and village of Pitlochry. It's really easy to find and walk to from the bus stop in Main Street.
Culdees Bunkhouse in Fearnan … It is simply great!!! I haven't been to a place like this before!!! It feels like home, and the hospitality is wonderful. It's a calm and beautiful farm house overlooking the beautiful loch!!! A must-stay place for anybody who wants a break, just to experience the beautiful landscape.
Comrie Croft Crieff in Crieff … I stayed here last summer with a group of friends, and just never got around to rating it before. It was the best hostel I've ever stayed in, and I've been in quite a few. Rooms are nice, and the staff is extremely helpful. You can rent bikes from the hostel and ride around the country side, there are also lots of hiking paths you can take directly from the hostel, and the scenery in amazing. Also had fun playing basketball and football in the barn! Overall, a great experience.
Pitlochry Youth Hostel in Pitlochry … Our family have came here for a weekend just after xmas twice now. Our third trip is in a couple of weeks. It is very reasonable to hire the full hostel when a big group of you are splitting the cost. The kitchen is a great size if your cooking for a lot of people, and while the hostel is quite basic, it's just what our family needs for our annual xmas party. The best thing about Pitlochry is everyone getting their own room and own en suite. Never tried it when its open to the public but if you want to hire a hostel for a party, our family would highly recommend it.
Pitlochry Backpackers in Pitlochry … Lovely old building that was a high class hotel in a past life. Rooms were nice and had basic facilities. The staff was great and very helpful!! I will come back.
Culdees Bunkhouse in Fearnan … Everyone really enjoyed the weekend at the Bunkhouse. The hosts were wonderful and I've never seen so many smiling faces at the end of a night's sing-a-long. It was also a great place for kayakers, giving views of the weather up and down the valley. Thank you!!
New County Hotel in Perth … We were given small, drab cold rooms on second floor. No hot water, despite running the tap or the shower/bath for 15 minutes. We were three couples in three twin-bedded rooms. There was curdled milk left on the windowsill presumably by a previous guest. No heating overnight. Reception staff couldn't do anything because the manager was on holiday. I had to phone him and he disputed my complaint. Given that this was not an inexpensive hotel I felt the standard was very poor and would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
