HI - Guarda Hostel in Guarda … My stay here was good, but making the reservations was a bit hard. There is technically a way to book online, but after entering your information, you're asked to proceed to another site (which is in Portuguese) to confirm the payment. As far as I could figure you had to be registered with the site to do this. I ended up contacting a person in the Portugal hostel association – Solange Batista — by e-mail and she made the reservations manually for me. At least in regard to this hostel (at the time I went, in July 2005) reservations are probably not necessary, at least for the hassle they were. Otherwise, the hostel's a good place to stay.
HI - Guarda Hostel in Guarda … I stayed in this hostel in February and it was ok if you only want to sleep. The people at the reception didn't spoke english at all or so little. You cannot check-in before 6 p.m. which was a big problem for me because I took the night train from Spain and it arrives at 6:30 a.m. The room was nice and even if it's was bunk beds they weren't the cheap one I've seen in a lot of places. There's no kitchen and no breakfast(which I don't mind). The 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. lockout is a big too much. On the good side there's free internet available in the building in front of it until 8 p.m. but only weekdays. Anyway, for the low price it's worth it.
HI - Guarda Hostel in Guarda … For super-clean rooms at an unbeatable price (where else can you get a 5-bed dorm for €5?) check this place out. It's in the fairly quiet town of Guarda. Only Portuguese or the occassional Spanish tourist seem to frequent here, so you can get a close to authentic taste of Portugal. …
