Guimaraes Youth Hostel in Guimaraes I was here for one night and thought that it was a great hotel. Shame that it was basically empty. Guimaraes deserves more tourists because it's a lovely city. Well worth a day or two. You can't go wrong with this well priced hostel.
Guimaraes Youth Hostel in Guimaraes It's definitely a hidden gem -- don't go for it unless you have a GPS or a detailed map print in your pocket. But you would be much (pleasantly) surprised as soon as you get in there -- it's more like a hotel. Definitely worth considering if you ever get to Guimaraes.
Pousada de Juventude de Braga in Braga The Braga HI Hostel is just north of the city center (Praca da Republica), but the lack of any signposting makes it a little hard to find. There's only a small, weathered Pousada de Juventude sign on the outside of the building, so make sure you have a map of the hostel's location before you're heading to Braga. The staff isn't always as friendly they could be and their administration seems to be a little messy, but they are generally willing to help (they arranged an early breakfast for me at 7:15 a.m. when I wanted to leave early one day). The kitchen facilities are a bit poor -- the fridge is way too small for the size of the hostel, the number of pots and pans is limited, and most kitchenware looks a bit dodgy (including plates, cups). However, the common room is ok and they have a nice (though bit outdated) noticeboard with information about the area. Beds look old-fashioned but are actually really comfortable, though the space between upper and lower bed was pretty small
Apulia Praia Hotel in Apúlia Extremely good value, new, modern, clean, comfortable and large room and bathroom, excellent self-service breakfast, near the splendid beach. Only problem -- do not rely on hotel personnel for information about public transport. They have the timetables but they even don't know where the bus stops are located. For a faster transfer to Esposende or Povoa (direction Porto) catch the bus on the main road (bus stop Apulia) which is a bit away. Connections from the bus stop Apulia Praia (near the church) are rare.
Guimaraes Youth Hostel in Guimaraes Guimaraes Youth Hostel is a five-star hostel. Not only is it spotlessly clean, spacious, and friendly, but there is a full kitchen with a big fridge, several dining rooms, a terrific breakfast, a large patio, plenty of bathrooms and showers, no end of hot water, game tables, large-screen TV, CD
